Kuwait Heritage

Start the day with a visit to the main landmark of Kuwait, known as the Kuwait Towers, designed by Sune Lindström and Malene Björn and built by Energoprojekt. They opened to the public in March 1979. In 1991, after the liberation of Kuwait City during the First Gulf War, substantial shell and bullet damage to the towers.


Our next stop is the visit to the Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in Kuwait with an area that spans 45,000 square meters, out of which the building itself covers 20,000 square meters. The remaining area consists of gardens with a variety of flowers, plants, palm trees, fountains, and waterfalls. The Dome of the Grand Mosque is decorated with "Isma Al - Hosna", the 99 attributes of God [Allah]. The Grand Mosque can accommodate up to 10,000 men in the Main Prayer Hall and it has a separate Daily Prayer Hall for men also. A Ladies' Prayer Chamber is located on a level above, which can hold up to 950 female worshippers.


Than the Kuwait City's souk complex, located in the heart of the city center, has plenty to offer the shopper and people watcher. Kuwait's colorful Heritage Souk offers ample opportunity to sample exotic sweets, dates and delicacies, as well as to visit the specialized sections devoted to handicrafts and gold. The Heritage Souk is also a community center where Kuwaitis regularly do their grocery shopping from the produce, spice, meat and fish stands and then gather for socializing and shisha smoking at the souk's numerous outdoor cafes.


Finally the Kuwait National Museum which opened in 1957, represents the Kuwaiti environment in all its aspects, preserving the customs and traditions of Kuwaiti and reflecting the old Kuwait life and history. The museum holds the old possessions, living vestiges that go back to the first centuries of the Islamic Era.


Please Note: The visit to the mosque requires both ladies and gentlemen to have their legs covered to the ankles and wear long sleeve shirts/blouses to the wrists. Ladies also need to bring a scarf to cover their head, including the hair. Shoes must be removed at the entrance to the mosque. Guests are advised to wear modest, lightweight clothing and shoes that are easily removed. Any food, drinks, and smoking are strictly prohibited at the Grand Mosque. It is prohibited to take pictures of local Kuwaiti citizens without their expressed permission; failure to secure their permission can result in questioning, confiscation of film or camera by local authorities.

Shoppers Delight

Departing the pier by motorcoach, enjoy a short panoramic drive through Kuwait City before arriving at the Heritage Market.


Kuwait City's souk complex, located in the heart of the city center, has plenty to offer the shopper and people watcher. Next the Marina Shopping Mall & Cresent, international acclaim, is one of the Middle East's most prestigious shopping malls hosting a collection of designer brand names. It has over one million square feet of shopping and leisure for you to adore - one by one.


Lunch is being served at the 'Beit Dickson Restaurant', named after Colonel Harold Dickson a British colonial administrator in the Middle East from the 1920s until the 1940s, and author of several books on Kuwait, transports you to the "Old Souk" feeling. Arabic tents, mud wall finishes, cement floor, heavy wood chairs, rustic and antique furniture, and the wait staff in their colorful traditional dress make you feel as if you were dining in old Kuwait.


Finally, the visit to the famous landmark of the State is the Kuwait Tower that is the must see which has three towers of reinforced concrete in Kuwait City. The towers were designed by Sune Lindström and Malene Björn and built by Energoprojekt. Memorial Liberation

Departing the pier by motorcoach to the Kuwait Memorial Museum which encapsulates the horror of the Iraqi invasion, that honors the sacrifices that ordinary Kuwaiti citizens, the Kuwaiti military and the allies made in order to beat back Saddam's forces.


Next a visit to the Kuwait Martyr's Museum was a house in Qurain, which was nearly destroyed during the invasion in 1990. It is now a museum which tells people the story of this house which belonged to the martyr, Bader Al Eidan, who was killed here, along with 11 of his friends. It became a museum by the order of H.H. the Late Amir of Kuwait after his visit in 1991, after the liberation.


When Iraq's army invaded Kuwait in 1990, the Tareq Rajab Museum's owners bricked up the doorway of the villa, fooling the Iraqis into bypassing the ethnographic museum's precious collection of Arab and Islamic art, over 10,000 artifacts dating back to the 7th century.

Kuwaiti Coastline

Departing the pier by motorcoach, it's a short panoramic drive to the impressive Marine Museum.


On display are twelve large ship models, a collection of seafaring accessories, and pictures of traditional significance. Alongside exhibits one of the renowned exhibits of the museum is the Al Hashemi II which holds the World Guinness Record for the largest wooden ship. It has unique plush interior incorporating gold plated walls and hand crafted wooden floors


Continuing on to the Scientific Center of Kuwait to view living examples of the Gulf's marine life at the aquarium; such as snakefish, sweetlips, guitarfish, goatfish and crocodiles. Also, enjoy viewing live animals of the desert in the center's indoor zoological center, including fennecs, jerboas, caracals, horned vipers and pythons.

Finally a visit to the Kuwait Fish Market Complex is considered a modern facility from an engineering point of view. Considered the most famous fish market in Kuwait, and reflects the traditional fishing culture of old Kuwait. The fish market is a major shopping center for the city's residents along with visitors from neighboring countries, offering stalls selling other items such as, meat, poultry, vegetables and organic foods. The marina or locally known as the Dhow Harbor plays a dual role in the market. It is very close to the main fishing sites, thus it functions as a modern marina for harboring boats and fishing vessels in addition to accommodating private yachts.
