Their powerful reign is evident by the traditional Japanese garden they possessed called Suizenji Jojuen Park, also former residence of Hosokawa Gyobu. Other local specialties have also developed in Kumamoto such as Higo-Zozan design and Shodai-yaki pottery in the 17th century as well. Higo-Zozan design was used for harquebus at the beginning and used for accessories nowadays.
