After a photo stop at the City Mosque, re-board your coach and proceed to the Heritage Village.


Heritage Village, Tribal Houses, Skull Hut and Sabah Museum

The Heritage Village offers guests a wonderful introduction to the culture, people and architectural styles of North Borneo. Each tribe has built their houses with their own unique layout and design using bamboo, tree bark, nipah leaves and other local materials sourced from their area. In addition to the native houses, visit the Skull Hut to learn about the practice of headhunting and Sabah Museum to admire the colourful traditional costumes of the different tribes.


State Mosque and Water Village

Next, re-board your coach for the drive past the State Mosque en route to a photo stop at the Water Village, where you can also learn more about the simple life enjoyed by the residents. Afterward, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.


Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 656 yards (about 600 metres), at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach, 40 steps at the sites visited and 60 uneven steps at the Heritage Village. Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive to the Lok Kawi Zoological Park, with a photo stop at the City Mosque en route. The Lok Kawi Zoological Park spans over 300 acres (about 121 hectares) of valleys and hilly terrain. The park's mission is to educate the public on wildlife and environmental conservation, research into captive management, the rescue of native animals for treatment or rehabilitation, and the reproduction of endangered species. Upon arrival, begin your guided walking tour. Explore some of the abundant and diverse wildlife found in Borneo's rainforest, including orangutans, long-nosed proboscis monkeys, Asian pygmy elephants, gibbons, hornbills, and more.


City Centre and Suburban Landmarks

Kota Kinabalu, City Centre, State Mosque and Klias Wetlands

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 2.25-hour drive past Kota Kinabalu's city centre and State Mosque en route to the Klias Wetlands. Upon arrival, a refreshment stop is made at the canteen near the jetty before embarking a local boat for a picturesque, approximately 1.5-hour river cruise through the Klias Wetlands.


Klias Wetlands River Cruise

The expansive Klias Peninsula spans approximately 321,237 acres (about 130,000 hectares), serves as a flood plain for the Padas River and has a network of river channels. Habitats include mangroves near the coast, plus riverine and swamp forest further inland. During your Klias Wetlands river-cruise, look for wildlife that includes proboscis monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, estuarine crocodiles, monitor lizards, and a myriad of bird species, including hornbills.


Malaysian Dinner

Following your river cruise, proceed to the canteen for a Malaysian, buffet-style dinner accompanied by the sounds of nature in this rustic setting. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 2.25-hour drive back to the pier.

Upon arrival at the jetty, embark a local thatch-roof raft for a picturesque ride through the mangroves. En route, learn about the importance of this riverine forest and try your hand at crab-catching. After returning to the jetty, some free time is made available at your leisure to explore the local sights and culture. You can learn about the art of Batik painting, create an original Batik design of your own, try blowpipe target-shooting and/or take a stroll by the beach. You can also enjoy a cup of 'teh tarek', a popular local tea, which is served with 'roti canai', a Malaysian pancake. At the conclusion of your visit, commence the approximately 35-minute drive back to the pier.

Borneo - Its People & Wildlife

Learn about the culture and wildlife of Borneo during this half-day overview excursion. View the unique Borneo wildlife at the Lok Kawi Zoological Park and experience a look at the past at the Sabah State Museum and Heritage Village. A panoramic drive by the city's major landmarks completes your visit.


Your outing begins with a coach orientation drive out of the city, towards the Zoolgoical Park. Pass the City Mosque from the coach as you carry on into the interior of the island for a further 45 minutes.


Zoological Park

The Lok Kawi Zoological Park spans over 300 acres (about 121 hectares) of valleys and hilly terrain. The park's mission is to educate the public on wildlife and environmental conservation, research into captive management, the rescue of native animals for treatment or rehabilitation, and the reproduction of endangered species. Upon arrival, begin your guided walking tour. Explore some of the abundant and diverse wildlife found in Borneo's rainforest, including orangutans, long-nosed proboscis monkeys, Asian pygmy elephants, gibbons, hornbills, and more.


Pass by the Sabah State Mosque en route to the Sabah Museum and Heritage Centre; this gold-domed state mosque is centrally positioned and overlooks most of the town. It reflects contemporary Islamic architecture and can accommodate 5,000 worshippers. There is a special balcony with room for 500 women to pray.


Sabah State Museum

Located on Bukit Istana Lama, a hill behind the State Mosque, this museum was built in the longhouse style of the Rungus tribe. The museum has a wealth of historical and tribal treasures, and handicrafts made by the indigenous peoples. Ceramics and traditional weapons reflect the diversity of the State's culture and traces Sabah's early trade links with the neighbouring countries of Southeast Asia and China. The museum also houses musical instruments, tools, and ritual paraphernalia. The major highlights are the exhibits of life-size traditional houses belonging to ethnic groups.


The coach then takes you through the city centre and back to the awaiting ship.


Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking to explore the zoological park fully and guests must be able to embark and disembark the coach via the bus steps. It is not recommended for guests with limited mobility. We recommend bringing protection from the sun (hat, glasses, and lotion), insect repellent, and a light raincoat, as it generally rains in the afternoon.

Mt. Kinabalu World Heritage Site

The jagged granite peaks of Mt. Kinabalu (13,435 feet or 4,095 metres) towers above one of the most biologically diverse areas in the world. Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Kinabalu Park is a natural wonder that offers day visitors a glimpse into the fascinating and often unique world of plant life within the park.


Mount Kinabalu

A drive of approximately two hours takes you through Dusun villages and over the ridges of the Crocker Range to the foothills of Mount Kinabalu. Continue to the park headquarters at 5,000 feet (1,524 metres) for a 30-45-minute casual walk (approximately one kilometre in length) on one of the trails in the cool surroundings of the mountain forest. Learn about the unique park's flora as you walk through the botanical garden, home to many species of flowering rhododendrons, carnivorous pitcher plants, orchids, ferns, oak trees.


Enjoy lunch at Kundasang before re-board the coach for the return drive back to the ship.


Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking, some of which is on uneven, intertwining roots, rocky and/or muddy and slippery trails. It is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Please wear sturdy walking shoes. The driving distance between the Kinabalu Park and the pier is approximately 2 hours in duration. The toilet facilities en route are very basic. Explore the various traditional homes of these Sabahan ethnic communities, which have been built by descendants of the tribes which they represent.
