Visit the famous site of Philippi which lies north-west of Kavala, on the northern border of the marsh that in Antiquity covered the entire plain separating it from the Pangaion hills to the south.
Depart by coach for a 20 minute scenic ride from the beautiful port of Kavala. Enjoy history that goes back to its foundation in the 6th century BC by settlers from Thasos and Eretria. Today Kavala is a busy city, where life centres around the harbour below the castle. The archaeological site of ancient Philippi is where Apostle Paul first preached Christianity. Visit the main site to see the ruins of the glorious ancient city, the two Basilicas, the Forum, the Byzantine Headquarters, the so -called jail of Apostle Paul, the theatre of the classical period.
Next, stop and visit Lydia site, the stream where Lydia was baptised as well as the modern baptistery.
From here a short drive will take you to ship. Time permitting you may choose to remain in town for time at leisure.
Please note: This tour involves extensive amount of walking (Approximately 800m / 0.5 miles), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses from the ship. Depart the pier for the short drive to Tosca Beach. Located just three miles (five kilometres) from the port of Kavala, this lovely, golden-sand beach with lush vegetation has been awarded the 'Blue Flag' designation for its crystal-clear water and organisation. A four-star hotel, restaurant and cafeteria are located on-site.
Upon arrival, leave the coach for the brief walk to the sun beds and umbrellas. During your visit, you can relax and unwind whilst sunbathing, swim in the crystal-clear water of the Aegean Sea, take a stroll on the soft sand and/or sip a refreshing drink at the beach bar. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking (200 metres/0.12 miles), at times on uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility, but is not wheelchair-accessible. Guests are advised to wear a swimsuit under a cover-up with beach or water shoes, and bring sun protection and a towel from the ship. Two sunbeds and one umbrella are provided per couple. Operation of this tour is subject to weather conditions. This tour may not be able to operate on October 8th.
