Silversea Luxury Cruises A Iquique

Iquique may give off gentle vibes of Miami - think majestic gold beaches and palm-tree lined boardwalks – but there’s no denying the fact that this city has a relaxed swagger of its own. As something of a surfer's paradise, the turquoise ocean constantly calls out, and if a sense of adventure takes hold, you can leave the peace of the golden sand to crest rolling waves, kayak beside playful dolphins, or skirt over the waves while paragliding. After the Spanish initially colonised it, Iquique was then incorporated into the Viceroyalty of Peru, which covered much of Latin America. It was only formally ceded to Chile, by Peru, when the War of the Pacific ended with a decisive Chilean victory, in 1883. Iquique became an important trading city in 1975, when it was granted free port status, releasing the area from tax burdens and opening up the doors to extensive international trade. The city hit news headlines around the globe in 2014, when friendly locals were caught on camera rescuing a beached blue whale from sand close to the city.
