While people may come initially to Ihalbela for its famous beaches, (one of which was named as a top ten worldwide beach by The Guardian), expect much greater things that just sunning and relaxing in the shade from this little island. With almost 25 miles/40 kilometres of pristine beaches, fun in the sun is certainly always an option, but Ilhabela is also a vibrant little city, full of vivacity and history, just waiting to be discovered.
Located on the west coast of the island, Ilhabela town still shows signs of its colonial past, examples of which can be see through the local architecture. Perhaps one of the most photogenic chapels you will see on the island is the Nossa Senhora D’Ajuda. Built in 1806, the Catholic church is a pretty little white-washed building set on a hill, positioned as if protecting over the town. Decked with colourful bunting much of the time, the church is filled to the rafters on holy days with locals expressing their faith. The interior of the church has signs of faded grand charm, much like the city itself. Several miles before the entrance to town, on the way to the ferry, is the Princess’ House, an impressive 18th-century mansion belonging to the Fazenda Engenho d’Agua, one of the most important of Ilhabela’s many former sugar plantations.

Departing from the pier, board an air-conditioned van for an approximately one-hour visit to the downtown area, stopping for photos at the Barreiro's Viewpoint.

Waterfall Municipal Park
Continue past the Princess' House en route to the Waterfall Municipal Park. Once there, enjoy the short 15-minute drive to the Toca Waterfalls, or Waterfall Park as the locals call it. The falls are on the site of an old sugar and banana plantation that was built in 1937 for the production of cachaça, a distilled spirit from Brazil that is a style of rum.
You'll have approximately 1-hour to explore the Toca Falls with a guided visit to the three main falls.

Depart from the pier are in your 4x4 jeep and ride for approximately 30 minutes arriving at Curral Beach. View many beautiful beaches along the south side of the island before arriving at this well-known and most popular beach where you can enjoy approximately 90-minutes of free time to relax, sunbathe
Agua Branca Natural Pools
After your beach relaxation travel to view splendid waterfalls, the "3 Tombos Waterfalls", located close to the Feiticeira Beach. The three falls are part of the beautiful, natural island landscapes and the largest is over 20 metres (66 feet) high. Have free time to enjoy the rejuvenating natural spray of the falls and go for a swim if you wish.
Return to the Pier in your 4x4 on the approximate 30 minute ride.

Depart directly from the pier area on your wooden schooner for an approximately 15-minute sail to Jabaquara Beach. Beautiful beaches, more than 300 waterfalls and an enormous variety of the Atlantic Rain Forest's fauna and flora are all factors that helped name the island "Ilhabela" - the beautiful island. Approximately 85% of the island is defined as a national park and is designated by UNESCO as a national patrimony and one of the last untouched areas of the Atlantic Rainforest.
Take a small boat ashore at Jabaquara Beach, one of Brazil's most treasured stretches of sand, for a few hours of relaxation, swimming and sun bathing. With soft sands and cut by two crystalline creeks, Jabaquara Beach offers enchantment, tranquility and a special charm. Even for non-swimmers the beauty of the scenery and white sand beaches alternating with the green and blue waters of the ocean and greenery make this a most enjoyable outing.
