Three hours south of Yamoussoukro, nestled in between the canals and waterways, lies Abidjan the economic capital of the Ivory Coast. Considered the crossroads of West Africa both economically and culturally, Abidjan benefits from clement temperatures year round, reaching average highs of around 88˚ Fahrenheit, or 30˚ Celsius. Like much of West Africa, this city has cachet and soul, and enjoys a diversity of cultures, traditions and people, notably through the French influence (Abidjan is the largest French speaking country in West Africa), but also through the steady stream of tourists that make the city both vibrant and cosmopolitan. Although its reputation was tarnished during the civil war in 2011, Abidjan held firm and has blossomed into a stunning coastal city, ripe for exploration.

Excursiones en Abidjan

Abidjan & Bassam

Depart the pier for a full-day's tour of Abidjan, the economic centre and former official capital of Ivory Coast, and the third largest French speaking city in the world. Originally a fishing village, the construction of a new wharf in 1931 contributed to the growth of the village to become the capital of the then French colony until 1983 when Yamoussoukro became the capital. However, most government offices and foreign embassies are still located in Abidjan.

Stop at the Centre Artisanal de Abidjan where you can see locals selling crafts in an open air market.

Your tour continues to Grand Bassam, an example of a late 19th-century colonial town. Visit the National Costume Museum. See traditional clothing, masks and learn about architecture in the area.

Your tour concludes with the drive back to Abidjan.

Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking with steps to negotiate on and off the coach and at some sites. It is not suitable for guests utilising a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Please leave all valuables onboard the ship. Local conditions may be challenging, therefore we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit these unique, and somewhat remote destinations. Guides and transport are the best available in the area but may fall short of your expectations. Guides may be heavily accented. Due to the limited number of guides and vehicles, all seats on the coach will be utilised.
