Nemo, Onekotan Island
Nemo is the northern of the two stratovolcanoes that make up Onekotan Island, one of the larger Kuril Islands. Within its caldera is a second volcano and in its northeastern part is a lake. Onekotan has been used by the Ainu before it was administered by the Japanese in the 17th and early 18th century. Later ownership of the island has switched between the Japanese and Russians. Although much of the shore shows cliffs, there some small areas where a landing is possible and remains of a Japanese garrison during WWII can be seen close to Nemo Beach.
