Discover the rich maritime heritage of Greenwich, the Greenwich Observatory and the Queen's House during this half-day tour.
Depart the pier by coach for the 45-minute drive to Greenwich to start your fascinating walking tour in the shadows of where the beautiful tea clipper Cutty Sark once stood; built to transport tea from China and India to the avowedly tea drinking nation of Britain. Tragically, the ship was badly damaged in a fire 2007 while undergoing extensive restoration and is currently closed to the public.
Greenwich Observatory
A guided walk through the quaint streets and beautiful landscaped park leads to the world famous Greenwich Observatory. The Observatory was founded by order of King Charles II to study to study astronomy and to fix longitude. An inside visit of the Observatory provides a fascinating insight into the history of GMT and also the Prime Meridien. In the Park is the brass strip which marks the Meridian, and those who stand astride it can truly say they are standing in both the Eastern and Western Hemisphere.
The Queen's House
Continue your walk pass the National Maritime Museum and arrive at The Queen's House for a short visit. As the first Palladian building in Britain, it was the direct inspiration for classical houses and villas all over the country in the two centuries after it was built. Commissioned in 1616 by Anne of Denmark, wife of James I, the Queen's House is the masterpiece of the English architect Inigo Jones. Originally the house was used as a private retreat and 'House of Delight', As well as being an architectural gem, the Queen's House is now an active venue for the appreciation and exploration of art and displays the fine collection of paintings owned by the National Maritime Museum, such as works by Canaletto.
Royal Naval College
Following your visit, finish your walk by heading towards the former Royal Naval College, a World Heritage Site reckoned to be the finest and most dramatically sited architectural and landscape ensemble in the British Isles. Founded in 1694 as the Royal Hospital for Seamen, The Old Royal Naval College is a superb example of Baroque landscape. Designed by the greatest architects of the day including Sir Christopher Wren and Hawksmoor, it is now managed by the Greenwich Foundation. Free time will be available here for photos or further investigation independently before re-joining your coach for the return ride to the pier and your awaiting ship.

Commence the tour in the 'City', and then continue to the `West End`, the part of central London west of the City's limits. Westminster, Whitehall and St. James's
Pass Westminster, Whitehall and St. James's section of London, the coach then crosses Westminster Bridge, and passes by the neo-Gothic Parliament buildings presiding over the banks of the River Thames and its adjacent 320 foot clock tower of Big Ben. From Parliament Square look across to St. Margaret's Church. Standing adjacent is the architectural and masterpiece of the 13th to 16th centuries - Westminster Abbey. It represents a unique pageant of British history as the setting for every Coronation since 1066, and for numerous other Royal occasions. The Guide will point out the main external features of the building and a photo stop is made to take photographs of the outside.
Boarding the coach you will then see Whitehall, passing the end of Downing Street and the Cenotaph war memorial and past Horse Guard's Parade. Afterwards travel along the broad triumphal approach to Buckingham Palace - The Mall which is lined on one side by the delightful St. James's Park, a quiet and relaxed oasis with its flowerbeds and its ducks and pelicans on the lake. James's Palace; still the Court's official headquarters and adjacent Clarence House Clarence House - London home of Prince Charles and Princes William and Harry. Pass the Admiralty Arch which separates courtly London from the hurly burly of Trafalgar Square that stands imposing Nelson's Column.
Afterwards leave the hustle and bustle of central London and head to Heathrow airport to connect with your outbound flight.

Windsor Castle
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximate 75-minute drive to Windsor Castle. Originally built as a fortress by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is one of three official residences of the Queen and has been home to the Sovereign for over 900 years. From miles away, Windsor Castle can be seen perched on a chalk outcrop overlooking the River Thames, and the charming town and countryside surrounding it.
Windsor Castle Tour and State Apartments
Upon arrival at the coach parking area, pass through security and begin your walking tour of Windsor Castle. Your visit focuses on the castle's two most outstanding features, the State Apartments and St. George's Chapel. Stroll through the immense courtyard of the Lower Ward, which is flanked by St. George's Chapel and leads to the mound and Round Tower. During your visit to the State Apartments, marvel at the painted ceilings, panelled walls, Adam fireplaces, classic furniture, and the priceless paintings and drawings. St. George's Chapel
In 1475, King Edward IV erected St. George's Chapel, one of the most beautiful religious buildings in England. Built in the Perpendicular style of Gothic architecture, the chapel took 51 years to complete. Ten monarchs are buried here. At the conclusion of your visit, exit through the Henry VIII Gateway, which bears Henry's coat of arms and that of his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. After returning to the coach parking area, re-board your coach for the approximate 75-minute drive back to the pier.

Open House
Guests will be offered a bowl food lunch reception and are invited and invited to discover the fine rooms within the Society which are decorated with explorer portraits and breathtaking maps including a 17th century Chinese map of the world, one of only 8 which exist in the world.
Guests will be privileged to enjoy a photographic exhibition in the exhibition pavilion showcasing images by Frank Hurley from Sir Ernest Shackleton's 'Endurance' expedition of 1913-1917. The story of the expedition is one of the most iconic ever told and the remarkable images captured by Frank Hurley, the expedition's photographer are widely acknowledged as the 'crown jewels' of the Society's photographic collection.
Guests can also spend time amongst the Collections with a curated display of treasures in the Foyle Reading room.
Ondaatje Theatre
Following the open house guests will be escorted into the Ondaatje Theatre for a lecture from Alasdair Macleod, Head of Collections & Enterprise at the Society. Be transported as Alasdair explores the vibrant history of this fascinating Society from 1830 to the present day. Be inspired as he delves into some of the most iconic stories of exploration. Wondered where Stanley met Livingstone in Africa, or how Shackleton managed to survive three years frozen in the Antarctic ice? Be inspired and discover your world as you have never seen it before.
At the conclusion of the event, guests are under their own arrangements from the Royal Geographical Society to their final destination unless they have purchased the optional Silversea transfer to Heathrow Airport.

Guests will be privileged to enjoy a photographic exhibition in the exhibition pavilion showcasing images by Frank Hurley from Sir Ernest Shackleton's 'Endurance' expedition of 1913-1917. The story of the expedition is one of the most iconic ever told and the remarkable images captured by Frank Hurley, the expedition's photographer are widely acknowledged as the 'crown jewels' of the Society's photographic collection.
Guests can also spend time amongst the Collections with a curated display of treasures in the Foyle Reading room.
Ondaatje Theatre
Following the open house guests will be escorted into the Ondaatje Theatre for a lecture from Alasdair Macleod, Head of Collections & Enterprise at the Society. Be transported as Alasdair explores the vibrant history of this fascinating Society from 1830 to the present day. Be inspired as he delves into some of the most iconic stories of exploration. Wondered where Stanley met Livingstone in Africa, or how Shackleton managed to survive three years frozen in the Antarctic ice? Be inspired and discover your world as you have never seen it before.
At the conclusion of the speech, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45 mins drive back to the pier.

Upon arrival at the coach parking area, pass through security and begin your walking tour of Windsor Castle. Your visit focuses on the castle's two most outstanding features, the State Apartments and St. George's Chapel. Stroll through the immense courtyard of the Lower Ward, which is flanked by St. George's Chapel and leads to the mound and Round Tower. During your visit to the State Apartments, marvel at the painted ceilings, panelled walls, Adam fireplaces, classic furniture, and the priceless paintings and drawings. This magnificent suite of ceremonial rooms is used by the Queen to entertain visiting Heads of State.

Depart the pier for the short drive from idyllic Flåm to Gudvangen. En route, pass through two long tunnels, one of which is more than six miles (about 9.6 kilometres) in length, and take in splendid views of the Aurlandsfjord. Gudvangen is an important ferry junction located on the other side of the mountains, and situated at the head of the spectacular Nærøyfjord, an UNESCO World Heritage Site and branch of the mighty Sognefjord. Upon arrival in Gudvangen, a short photo stop is made to marvel at your surrounds.
Nærøy Valley, Glashamaren, Oppheim Lake and Tvinde Waterfall
Next, re-board your coach and continue up the Nærøy Valley. Drive along the Salmon River, then past Glashamaren, where the road winds its way up the mountain in front of you and leads to the Stalheim Hotel. However, your current route takes you through the tunnels that pass underneath the mountain. Leaving the tunnels, continue along the road leading to Voss and Bergen. From here, pass by beautiful Oppheim Lake, then through woodlands and green farmland before approaching the spectacular Tvinde Waterfall. Upon arrival, take a short stroll amidst the fresh air for a closer look at the falls, which cascade down the mountainside. Afterward, re-board your coach and head back towards the Stalheim Hotel, which is perched on a cliff overlooking the Nærøy Valley.
Stalheim Hotel and Museum, and Stalheim and Sivle Falls
After refreshments served at the hotel, head to the terrace for splendid panoramic vistas overlooking the valley, or browse the hotel's shop and many antiques on display. Some time is also made available to explore the owner's open-air museum, which consists of 25 16th- and 17th-century farm buildings gathered from various parts of the country, as well as the stately, beautifully-furnished Lekve House (comment. It will be a guided walk with visit to some houses, guests can not visit the houses themselves). Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier. En route, drive down Norway's steepest road, which has 13 hairpin turns, to the valley below. Next, re-board your coach and drive down the famous Stalheimskleivene. See the Rjoande Waterfall, which cascades down 459 feet (140 metres), and the impressive peak of Vidmesnosi, which rises to a height of 4,163 feet (1,269 metres).
Naali Tunnel & Myrdalsberg
Next, pass through the longest tunnel at Naali, then the climb of 984-foot-high (300 metre-high) Myrdalsberg. In order to ascend it, the line is built on four levels. From here, you can view three of them, with the train standing on the fourth. Enjoy the sights of the old road constructed in 1895-96 in connection with the building of the Bergen Oslo Railroad that opened in 1909. The road ascends the steep hills in 21 narrow hairpin bends with a lovely waterfall adjacent to it.
Kjosfossen Waterfall & Vatnahalsen
A brief photo stop is made at the 305-foot-high (93-metre-high) Kjosfossen Waterfall. En route, the train slows down at the most scenic viewpoints. Upon arrival in Vatnahalsen, disembark the train for an 80-minute stay at the Vatnahalsen Hotel and grounds. Walk around the hotel, takes some photos and savour some coffee, tea and waffles inside.
Following your visit, re-board the train for the return ride to the Flåm Railway Station, then commence the approximate 984-foot (about 300-metre) walk back to the pier.

Troll's Road and Stigerøra Waterfall

This marvel of engineering features a winding road with 11 hairpin turns that snake their way down the mountain and through the valle. Descend the curves to the bottom of the valley, then stop to see the Stigerøra Waterfall cascading down the mountainside. From here, continue to the Troll Wall Viewpoint.
Troll Wall and Trollveggen Viewpoint
The Troll Wall, or 'Trollveggen' is the highest perpendicular rock face in Europe. It measures approximately 5,856 feet (about 1,785 metres) from the valley to the top of the wall. Out of this, approximately 3,248 feet (about 990 metres) are vertical together, with an approximately 148-foot (about 45-metre) overhang. Climbers from all over the world come here to try out the various routes to the top. Following a photo stop at the incredibly scenic Trollveggen Viewpoint, commence the approximately 2.5-hour drive back to Ålesund along the Romsdalsfjord, whose many small villages are noted for their woodcarving, rose-painting and ship-building. Next, cross over the Ørskog Mountain Plateau, a popular skiing area in Ålesund, then follow the fjord once again and return to the pier.

On the first floor, see stock fish sorted into different categories according to length. Generally, stockfish are processed from late-May and early-June. The fish are pressed into bundles weighing approximately 110 pounds (about 50 kilograms) each, and put into jute sacks before being exported.

During your visit, get some information about dog sledding and meet the beautiful huskies. You will be met by local guides and mushers who show you around the camp. Set out for a hike with some of Norway's top trained husky dogs. Along the way, view the fjords and mountains that surround Tromsø, and take a closer look at some of the local wildlife.
Upon returning back to the Wilderness camp after the hike enjoy some refreshments in the Sami campsite, depending on time you may have the chance to meet huskie puppies.

Cable Car
Re-board the coach for the brief transfer to the cable car station where you will experience an exhilarating cable car ride up 1,300 feet to the summit of Mount Storsteinen. During the summer months, between 4,000-5,000 reindeer graze here, and some may be spotted during your visit.
Stappan Islands Bird-Watching
Gjesvær is a sheltered harbour, with some 100 large-and-small offshore islands. Upon arrival, embark a boat for the 9.3-mile (15-kilometre) ride out towards the Stappan Islands, situated west of the North Cape cliff. Here, view bird-life that includes black-legged kittiwakes, puffins, razorbills, common guillemots, great cormorants, European shags, northern gannets, and even sea eagles. At the conclusion of your tour of the Stappan Islands, ride back to the village of Gjesvær. After disembarking the boat, re-board your coach and commence the approximate 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Next, embark your deep-sea motorised zodiac and set off towards the Sarnesfjord to inspect a string of crab-pots. The catch in the pots is likely to be between 6 and 14 pounds (14-30 kilograms). As the pot is brought up, see the king crabs and take photos before returning to shore for a king crab meal.
King Crab Meal
Lunch is presented in a traditional lavvo. A lavvo is a Sami tent with an open fire in the middle; guests sit on the ground around the fire on reindeer skins. In this tent, the crabs are prepared, cooked, and served with bread and butter and mineral water or coffee.
After dining, commence in the Zodiac and ride back to the pier, return your equipment, change into dry clothing and walk back the ship.

The North Cape Hall is one of the main attractions in Norway. North Cape Hall features a glass-enclosed viewpoint overlooking the Barents Sea, hundreds of feet below. In addition, there are shopping facilities, a post office, chapel, bar, cafés and restaurants, and a wide-screen cinema where the spectacular 14-minute long film takes you on a journey of a landscape filled with contrasts, light and nature.
During your approximate 1.5-hour visit to the North Cape Plateau enjoy this time to set off to sightsee the North Cape Hall on your own. You can explore, take photographs, shop for souvenirs and perhaps write postcards. Afterward, receive a North Cape certificate commemorating your visit.

Forsøl

Sami Camp Visit
Join them in their lavvu, a traditional turf hut used by the nomadic Sami, while herding and moving on the tundra. Relax on a reindeer skin by an open fire and sample some Sami dishes while Solveig and Mikkel recount the history, culture and everyday life of their people. Mikkel will also demonstrate joik, the typical Sami form of singing and chanting.
Following your visit, this interesting cultural outing concludes with an approximately 30-minute walk back down to the pier.

From here, we take a drive along the on the winding road along fjord to the neighbouring village of Loen. Thereafter we continue into the Lodalen Valley to the far end at Kjenndalen. From here we take a short stroll up to a view point of the Kjenndalen glacier in the distance - an arm of the mighty Jostedalsbreen glacier - the largest glacier on mainland-Europe. We walk back to the bus and drive back towards Loen.
Loen Village, Cable Car-Ride and Mount Hove
Upon arrival at the Hoven Loen Lower Station, board your new cable car (inaugurated last summer) for the breath-taking ride up to Mount Hoven, located approximately 3,317 feet (about 1,011 metres) above sea level, and approximately 656 feet (about 200 metres) above the treeline in this part of Norway.
Surrounding Mountain Scenery, Fjords and Villages
Upon arrival at Mount Hoven, a refreshment stop is made for coffee and spectacular panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountain scenery, along with splendid views of the fjord and villages below. Troldhaugen
Departing the pier by coach enjoy a 30 minute drive past to Bryggen" with it's old wooden warehouses from the Hanseatic period and continue through the city and suburbs to Troldhaugen - the composer Edvard Grieg's home. The unassuming light yellow clapboard house stands amidst trees at Troldhaugen, the Hill of the Trolls. Here, Edvard Grieg lived with his wife Nina for 22 years. The house was frequently used as a gathering place for many Scandinavian artists. It is filled with paintings, prints and memorabilia and, most notable, Grieg's Steinway piano. Both Grieg and his wife are buried in a tomb blasted into a rock face overlooking Lake Nordås.
Fantoft Stave Church
Your next stop is at the Fantoft Stave Church, originally built in Fortun in Sogn in 1150, moved to Fantoft in 1883 and rebuilt after a fire destroyed the old church in 1992. The church has now been rebuilt just as it was before the fire. The new church is constructed exactly like the ones that were built in the Middle Ages, using timber from the Sognefjord area, North of Bergen. In the Middle Ages, there were at least 800 of these very typical churches in Norway, today there are only about 30 left.
Bryggen
After the visit to the Fantoft Stave Church you will continue your tour by exploring the famous Bryggen, the old Hanseatic merchant buildings from the middle Ages. Rebuilt in 1702 when a disastrous fire struck the area. The whole area is under Protection, and is listed on the Unesco World Heritage List. Narrow alleyways run between the rows of houses. Today artists and craftsmen have moved in and facing the harbour are restaurants and shops of various kinds. The Hanseates settled in Bergen mid-14th century and had monopoly on the trade with Northern Norway for nearly 300 years. Norwegians from the Northern part of the country brought their stockfish, dried cod, to Bergen and went back with grain, spices, textiles and more.
Before returning to the ship the coach will stop at the Fish and Flower Market in the centre of the city for guests wanting to remain in town.

The magnificent Steinsdallsfossen Waterfall actually falls away from the cliff, which enables you to take an optional walk behind the waterfall without getting wet. Hardangerfjord and Steinstø Fruit Orchard
Among the favourites of the many Norwegian fjords, the Hardangerfjord is framed by mountains reflecting in the clear water, and famous for its many orchards and fruit blossoming in May. Along the way, a visit is made to the Steinstø Fruit Orchard. This lovely farm is nestled in a scenic location at the foot of the mountains above the Hardangerfjord, and has been family-owned and operated for eight generations. At the end of the pier you will stop to visit the Hanseatic Museum. The museum is situated in one of the oldest and best-preserved buildings in Bergen. It is furnished in the style of the 1700's to give an intimate picture of the life of a hanseatic merchant. To fully enjoy the visit you must climb a steep staircase inside the museum to reach the various rooms.
Mt. Fløien
Your next stop is at the funicular station. The Mt. Fløien Funicular will take you safely up to 1050 feet (320 meters) above sea level. The ride takes 5 minutes each way. From the top of Mount Fløien you can enjoy the magnificent view of the beautiful city of Bergen, the surrounding mountains and the sea. There is time for some shopping in the souvenir store before returning to the city. You will take the funicular down to the centre of Bergen and walk down to the Fish and Flower market.

The Castle is built in the special Dutch Renaissance style which became typical of Danish buildings during this period.

Enjoy a stopover in Iceland en route from Copenhagen. Combine the classic "Big Three" attractions of Iceland - Gullfoss Waterfall, the geothermal phenomena at Geysir and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Thingvellir National Park. Add to this a relaxing day in the Blue Lagoon natural geothermal spa in the middle of a beautiful lava field.
DAY 1 - ARRIVE REYKJAVIK
Upon disembarkation in Copenhagen, the local Silversea representative meets you and assists with your transfer to the airport for your flight to Iceland. Upon arrival in Keflavik International Airport, the Icelandic Silversea representative greets and transfers you to the Alda Hotel in Reykjavik. The hotel is very centrally located in the city centre. Following check-in and lunch on your own, spend some time this afternoon on a tour of the landmarks of the city, including the Pearl, Hallgrimskirkja Church and the Höfdi House. Return to the hotel at the end of the tour and enjoy dinner on your own account.

DAY 2 - GOLDEN CIRCLE
After breakfast at the hotel this morning depart for the approximate 30 mile drive to beautiful Thingvellir National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your visit to the Park allows you to experience some of Iceland's most outstanding scenery. The area is surrounded by mountains and encompasses a vast lava plain of green moss and wild flowers. Leaving Thingvellir, continue to the Geysir hot spring area. Here you will be surrounded by hissing springs and other geothermal phenomena. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. After lunch continue your drive to Gullfoss Waterfall. The "Golden Waterfall" is the most famous of the country's many waterfalls where the river Hvita drops 96 feet into two falls, creating an awesome spectacle. Continue on to the Kerid Crater. Iceland is dotted with volcanic craters, Kerid is one of the more dramatic ones. Created by an explosion followed by implosion of its cone, it now has a lake at is bottom. Return to Reykjavik and enjoy the evening at your leisure. Dinner will be on your own.

DAY 3 - REYKJAVIK/ BLUE LAGOON
Breakfast is included at the hotel again this morning. Enjoy some free time to explore the shops and sights on your own this morning. Following lunch (on your own account) meet back at the hotel for an afternoon excursion to the Blue Lagoon.
Depart for some relaxing time at the Blue Lagoon natural geothermal spa located in the middle of a beautiful lava field. Drive through Reykjavik's suburbs before entering into the surreal lava landscape of the Reykjanes Peninsula. The water of the lagoon is 37-39 degrees centigrade (98 - 102 Fahrenheit) mineral rich and reputed for its healing properties. The blue colour and the high lava wall surrounding the Lagoon create quite a unique atmosphere. Dressing rooms and showers are provided for men and women separately. For hygienic purposes, it is expected (in line with local customs) to take a shower without swimwear before entering the Lagoon. Following your visit, return to your hotel in Reykjavik for an evening at leisure. Dinner is on your own.

DAY 4 - DEPART REYKJAVIK
Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel before checking out. The local Silversea representative will coordinate your transfer to the airport for your homeward-bound flight.
The standard check-out time at the hotel is 12:00 Noon. If your flight departs late in the evening, please inquire about rates to guarantee your room for late check-out.
