As sources of their food dwindle due to diminishing habitats, the sanctuary has made efforts to supplement the monkey's diet with fruit and water daily to ensure the conservation of these animals. Your drive continues past the Coconut Palace, Cultural Centre of the Philippines, and Philippine Convention Centre en route to the Makati Financial District and American Cemetery and Memorial. Your tour concludes with a stop for refreshments at the Manila Hotel before commencing the short drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a minimal amount of walking for approximately 109 yards (about 100 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.
Step back in time as you visit Corregidor Island, the 'Rock', as it was known in World War II. This memorable tour also includes a dramatic Light and Sound show as well as a multitude of historical landmarks that serve as reminders of a world at war.
From the pier, a 15-minute transfer will take you to the terminal for your ferry ride to Corregidor, 27 miles (43 kilometres) across the bay from Manila.
Corregidor Island
Upon arrival, begin a guided tour of the island in open-sided Tranvia buses. As the last bastion to fall to the invading Japanese in 1942, Corregidor acquired immense significance as a symbol of the determined resistance of its Filipino and American defenders. Today it is a national shrine. Divided geographically into Topside, Middleside, Bottomside, Malinta Tunnel and the Tail, it is at Topside that the most vivid realities of the war can be seen and felt. Desolate ruins of barracks and buildings stand as stark reminders of the ugliness of a world torn by war. Topside was the location of Fort Mills, the nerve centre of military life at Corregidor. Here stands the sombre Pacific War Memorial, commanding a view of the surrounding waters.
Malinta Tunnel
After a buffet lunch at the Island, visit the site of General MacArthur's headquarters. The Malinta Tunnel contains mile-long barracks, gun batteries, a ruined hospital and a small museum. Exhibits include photographs of Corregidor as it was before World War II. It was to this tunnel that the defenders retreated, defying the Japanese as long as possible. In the end, the lack of water, food, medicine and ammunition left them little choice but to surrender on May 6, 1942. A 30-minute multimedia presentation provides an impressive dramatization of the war's events.
Depart Corregidor in mid-afternoon for the trip back to Manila's ferry terminal, where the transfer coach is waiting to return you to the ship.
Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking, a distance of about .75 miles (1.2 kilometres); however, some paths may be uneven, there may be some prolonged standing and there are many steps to climb to see all sites, including at least 20 steps to get in and out of the restaurant. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Travel to the island is approximately 1.5 hours in each direction. We recommend guests take seasickness precautions if prone to motion illness. Wear casual cotton clothing, flat comfortable walking shoes and protection from the sun. This tour requires a minimum number of participants to operate. The order of sights may vary.

The museum also features a one-of-a-kind boat gallery, showcasing miniatures of some of the watercraft that have contributed to the development of Philippine maritime trade and its Colonial economy. Archaeological and ethnographic objects from the country's northern and southern communities complement the historical collection. The Fine Arts collection features important works by three painters considered pioneers in Philippine art; Juan Luna, Fernando Amorsolo, and Fernando Zobel.
American Cemetery and Memorial
Next, re-board your coach and proceed to the 152-acre (62-hectare) American Cemetery and Memorial, perhaps the largest and most beautiful Armed Forces resting place outside the continental United States. With a total of 17,206 graves, it is home to the largest number of graves of any cemetery for U.S. personnel killed during World War II, and holds war dead from the Philippines and other Allied nations. The marble headstones are aligned in eleven plots forming a circular pattern, and set amidst a wide variety of tropical trees and shrubbery. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 656 yards (about 600 metres), with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. The history of Vietnamese Fine Arts can be traced to the French colonialists, who established the Fine Arts College of Indochine, which followed the European training method. When the Viet Minh led a general resistance against the French in 1945, some Vietnamese intellectuals followed this patriotic insurrection and formed a new artist generation.
After the war, the government favoured a social and economic reform while at the same time working on an 'opening policy' which encouraged joining the general world trend. In its wake, several brilliant artists began to emerge, creating their own individual styles without abandoning traditional heritage. Today, many Vietnamese artists and their works are highly regarded by Western art aficionados.
Today visit an Artist's village that emerged approximately 10 years ago when a group of famous artists in Saigon decided to move out of the crowded and busy city and resettle along the Saigon River. They wished to be surrounded by nature in order to support their artistic creations. Over time, more artists arrived, forming an artistic community, which includes different artists from various art schools. The artists specialize in various forms - oil, lacquer, black and white, water colours, as well as pieces from the war.
Walk through the streets, and see artists at work. Note the architecture of the houses which are representative of the different styles of houses in areas such as the Mekong Delta, Hue and the Hill tribes.
After the tour, re-board your coach for the short drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking. It is not suitable for those who utilise a wheelchair. Participation is limited; however, a minimum number of participants is necessary for tour's operation.
The Vietnam War, or the American War as it is known in Vietnam, pitched modern American technology against fierce Vietcong resistance waging a guerrilla war. On this half-day tour, experience a local perspective on wartime memories and the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels.
The two-hour drive southwest from Saigon to the Cu Chi Tunnels is a pleasant foray into the surrounding countryside. It is hard to believe you are entering a former war zone of such strategic importance. The busy road passes through tranquil rice paddies where entrepreneurial villagers use the hot roadside as a platform for drying all manner of produce. Hundreds of sheets of paper dot the countryside, drying on woven racks in the relentless sun. A short stop is made at a small village for photos of the countryside view and paddy fields.
At Cu Chi, your guide explains the underground network, shows the displays of tools and weapons used by the guerrillas, and provides insight into the ingenious methods that the Vietnamese soldiers employed to remain undetected. Work on the tunnels began in 1948 during the war against the French, and greatly expanded throughout the 1960s.
Measuring 31 inches (80 cm) wide and five feet (1.5 metres) tall, the maze of tunnels was extensive, extending over 120 miles (193 kilometres). They included storerooms, sleeping quarters, kitchens, medical facilities and classrooms, and at one time, over 16,000 people lived in the tunnels. Most only 2 or 2.5 feet wide by 5 feet high (60-72cm X1.5 metres), the tunnels had thick roofs capable of withstanding the weight of tanks or the impact of bombs weighing up to 200 pounds (91 kilograms). Some have been enlarged to accommodate visitors at the site.
Following your visit to the tunnels, board your coach for your return to the ship.
Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking. It is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Walking through the tunnels requires additional exertion. Guests participating on this portion of the tour should be fit and not prone to claustrophobia; guests may opt not to enter the tunnels. In the tunnels closest to the surface the actual rooms may be open to the sky above, with the tunnels in between fairly short. Approximately one hour is spent on site Cu Chi site. In Cu Chi guests will see sensitive material, including graphic pictures and displays of the atrocities of war.
Sturdy shoes, sun protection, and mosquito repellant are recommended. The duration of the drive between the pier and the tunnel are is approximately 2 hours in each direction.

Indulge your senses as you explore Jim Thompson's Thai house with its renowned silks before enjoying a Thai cooking demonstration on this half-day tour.
Depart the ship by mini-van for the 30-minute drive to Jim Thompson's world famous Thai house. Built in old Thai style, this rambling house was the work of the legendary American adventurer, Jim Thompson, who came to Thailand at the end of World War II and revitalised the Thai silk industry. His disappearance into the Malaysian jungle still remains a mystery today. The house, now a museum, displays Mr. Thompson's extensive collection of Thai paintings, pottery, Benjarong porcelain, and exquisite furniture. One part of the complex includes show rooms and a store where bolts of beautiful silk fabric and finished items are on display.
Re-board your mini-van and drive to the Bussaracum Restaurant (or similar), Thailand's first restaurant to specialise in royal household dishes, which are known for their distinctive ingredients, decorations and flavours. It is a spacious renovated home compound surrounded by the gardens where many of the herbs and spices used by the restaurant's skilled kitchen staff are grown. Here you are invited to practise on a cooking demonstration, followed by a sampling of Thai refreshments.
Afterwards, your mini-van returns you to the ship.
Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking, approximately 1,300 feet (425 metres), with about 30 steps to climb. This tour is not wheelchair accessible. Transportation is via mini-vans as the road to Jim Thompson's House is too narrow for coaches. Shoes must be taken off before entering the Thai Houses at Jim Thompson's House; wear slip-on shoes and bring socks for comfort. There is limited space on this tour; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
This full-day excursion offers a visit to one of Thailand's most majestic historical sites, included on UNESCO's World Heritage list since 1991. Begin your outing with a 90-minute drive north to Ayutthaya, considered one of Thailand's major attractions. Then, enjoy visiting the following highlights:
Bang Pa-In Summer Palace
En route to Ayutthaya wall, make a visit at the Bang Pa-In Summer Palace. The palace comprises a collection of buildings of various ages and various architectural styles surrounded by a lake. Built in the 17th century and left unoccupied when Bangkok became the capital, the palace gained importance again in 1851 when King Mongkut restored it and resumed residence there. Enjoy a visit and marvel at the richly decorated turn-of-the-century European aristocratic style, interspersed with whimsical Thai touches.
Ayutthaya Historical Park
Continue drive to the ruined city of Ayutthaya was once the ancient capital of Siam for four centuries and in its heyday was said to be more beautiful than either London or Paris. Located on a 2.5-mile (four kilometre) island at the confluence of three rivers, Ayutthaya was once encircled by a seven-mile (11-kilometre) wall. After the destruction of the city by the Burmese in 1767, a new dynasty was established and the capital was moved to Thonburi. Today, much of the ancient fabled city is contained within a Historical Park, where archaeological studies are still carried out.
While many of the buildings are in ruins, those drawn to relics of the past still find a visit to the remaining temple compounds and numerous structures awe-inspiring and a memorable experience. Begin the historical park tour with a noteworthy visit at the spectacular Wat Chai Wattanram, reminiscent of Angkor Wat in Cambodia.
Take a break from sightseeing and enjoy lunch at the Krungsri River Hotel (or similar).
Wat Na Phra Meru
Another good example of typical Ayutthaya-style temple, it was not destroyed by the Burmese. Constructed during the late 14th- and early 15th-centuries, the name suggests it was a royal cremation site. Of special note are the Buddha images - one fully decorated in regal attire and the other of black stone.
Following your visit, re-join your coach for the trip back to Bangkok and the ship.
Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking, for approximately 1 mile (1.6 km), with about 50 steps to climb. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Anticipate hot and humid weather. Wear comfortable shoes and light-weight clothing; however, shorts and sleeveless shirts are not permitted and guests must dress modestly. Shoes must be removed to enter the buildings visited. We suggest you wear slip-on shoes and bring a pair of socks for comfort. Order of sites may vary and traffic can affect the tour duration. The drive between the pier and Ayutthaya is approximately 90 minutes in each direction.
This half-day tour offers a visit to the Flower Market followed by a boat trip on the bustling Chao Phraya River makes for a fascinating experience. In addition, take in two of Bangkok's major attractions, the 'Temple of Dawn' (Wat Arun) and the Royal Barge Museum.
Flower Market & Boat Cruise

Then, board a private boat for a cruise on the Chao Phraya River and through some of the more peaceful canals. Wat Arun
At the 'Temple of Dawn', Wat Arun, the boat pauses to allow you a closer look at this magnificent temple, which is among Bangkok's most recognised landmarks. While the temple is best seen from the river, its curious decorations and statues of mythical figures are well worth a visit.
Royal Barge Museum
Leaving Wat Arun, resume your cruise through the klongs (canals) and head toward the Dockyard, home to the ceremonial royal barges. Once a year, the king would proceed down the river to Wat Arun in a flotilla of royal barges. Today, these elaborately decorated boats are preserved in this specially constructed museum and are a rare treat to visit.
Your cruise ends at the boat landing where the coach stands ready for the transfer back to the port.
Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking with few steps to climb. Guests must be able to manoeuvre in and out of the boat and cross over pontoons, requiring some agility. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Rubber-soled shoes and light-weight clothing are recommended. Bring local currency for any purchases.

After lunch, embark a private boat for a cruise on the Chao Phraya River and through some of the more peaceful canals. Visit three of the most impressive temples in Bangkok: Wat Po, known as the 'Temple of the Reclining Buddha', Wat Suthat, and Wat Benchamabophit, the 'Marble Temple'. A short Tuk Tuk ride compliments your half-day outing.
Wat Po
As 95% of Thailand's population is Buddhist, there are around 400 wats (temples) in Bangkok. Begin your outing with a 45-minute drive from the pier to the 'Temple of the Reclining Buddha', or Wat Pho, one of the largest and oldest wats in Bangkok. Home to more than one thousand Buddha images, it is named after the largest single Buddha image, that of a reclining Buddha, 150 feet (46 metres) long and 50 feet (15 metres) high. It is decorated with gold plating on the body and mother of pearl on the eyes and the soles of his feet.
Tuk Tuk Ride
Next, board a Tuk Tuk for a sightseeing ride to Wat Suthat. Tuk Tuks are three-wheeled, motorised taxis or 'auto rickshaws', named after the noise they make. Covered, with room for two, these quaint scooters are nimble at navigating the congested city streets.
Wat Suthat
Arrive at Wat Suthat, famous for its old and stunning murals inside the main building from the reign of King Rama III (1824-1851). The Viharn should be seen for its collection of gilded Buddha images. In front of the temple is the famous Giant Swing. Re-join the coach for a drive to the 'Marble Temple'.
Wat Benchamabophit
Your last visit is to Wat Benchamabophit, the 'Marble Temple', built of Italian marble with unique European ecclesiastic details. Complemented by stained-glass windows housing a Sukhothai-style Buddha statue, a superb cloister-collection of bronze Buddha images are housed here.
The coach then takes you back to the port and your awaiting ship.
Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking, for approximately one mile (1.6 kilometres), with many steps to climb. It is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or those who utilise a wheelchair. Comfortable, flat walking shoes are recommended. Two guests occupy each Tuk Tuk. Order of sites may vary.

Prasart Museum and Garden of Serenity

Approaching the top of the hill, take in spectacular panoramic views over Bangkok in all directions. Following your visit, board a Tuk Tuk, an open-air, motorised tricycle, for a ride around Bangkok's Old City before arriving at the Wat Po Temple.

He is decorated with gold plating on his body, and mother-of-pearl on his eyes and the soles of his feet. Your visit to the Buddhist temples concludes with a unique experience; you can participate in a very special Thai custom by presenting alms to the monk at temple, and receiving the monk's blessing. Discover Laos, one of Southeast Asia's almost forgotten countries. Officially called Lao People's Democratic Republic, the country has only recently begun to attract the attention of savvy and adventurous travelers due to Laos' breathtakingly beautiful nature, long history, rich Buddhist culture, and laid back lifestyle. The country's isolation is quickly giving way to change and the number of visitors is ever more increasing. On this Mid-Voyage Land Adventure you will have the opportunity for a brief visit to Laos' capital, Vientiane and to Luang Prabang, the country's showpiece and a World Heritage Site, situated 2,296 feet (700 metres) above sea level amid a backdrop of scenic mountains.
DAY ONE - Ho Chi Minh City / Vientiane
Depart the ship in Ho Chi Minh City after lunch and transfer to the airport for your afternoon flight to Vientiane, via Phnom Penh. Upon arrival in Laos' capital city, you are met and taken to the Settha Palace Hotel for check-in. Built in the 1930s, this Vientiane landmark hotel underwent extensive restoration and now serves once again as a testament to classical elegance and gracious service. After settling in, join your fellow tour members for dinner at the hotel.
Overnight accommodation at the Settha Palace Hotel - Vientiane.
DAY TWO - Vientiane / Luang Prabang
Following breakfast and check-out, enjoy an overview of Southeast Asia's 'biggest village'. An interesting mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French and American influences, makes Vientiane a charming and fascinating capital. A morning tour of the city will show you the major highlights, ending at the airport. Most of the sites are in relatively close proximity of each other.
Visit Wat Sisaket, the temple famous for its cloister wall with thousands of miniature Buddha statues. Vientiane's oldest surviving monastery, it was built by King Anouvong in 1818, in the Siamese style. Its grounds are richly planted with a variety of vegetation that is lovingly tended, so it becomes a restful retreat as well. Next, proceed to the most important national monument in Laos, Pha That Luang. This impressive gold-covered stupa is a symbol of both the Buddhist religion and Lao sovereignty. The exterior of the 'Great Stupa' resembles a fortress surrounded by high walls. The main stupa stands 148 feet (44 metres) tall and is covered with gold leaf. Legend has it that Ashokan missionaries from India erected a thâat or reliquary stupa here to enclose a piece of the Buddha's breastbone as early as the 3rd century BC. Excavations have found no trace of this, but did find suggestion of a Khmer monastery that might have been built near here between the 11th and 13th centuries AD. Before heading to the airport, stop for photos at the imposing Patuxai Monument, or 'Victory Gate', touted as Vientiane's own Arc de Triumph. It was built in the 1960s to commemorate those who fought in the struggle for independence from the French.
Arriving at Vientiane airport, check-in for a 40-minute flight to Luang Prabang. Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to the Vitoria Xiengthong Palace Hotel for check-in and lunch. This five-star hotel was the last residence of the Laos Royal Family. Located in the heart of Luang Prabang, surrounded by the golden spires of the town's famous Buddhist temples, this beautiful boutique property has been lovingly restored to its former glory, and once more sits proudly on the banks of the Mekong River. Look out upon the majestic Wat Xiengthong - the town's most famous temple, or simply sit back and soak up the ambience of this UNESCO protected palace, the perfect place to discover the wonder and charm of Luang Prabang - the Jewel of Indochina.
After lunch, a trip to Kuang Si Falls some 18 miles (30 kilometres) out of town follows a road that winds through hills with spectacular views, terraced rice fields and farmlands. Closer to the falls the weather gets a bit cooler due to the higher elevation and its forest location. From the parking area, a short hike on a well maintained forest trail leads up some 279 feet (85 metres) to the view point of the falls. Cascades, typical of travertine waterfalls, are intermingled with basins and pools. Be careful around the falls area as the ground may be wet and slippery. Photographers will enjoy the opportunity for pictures. Then retrace your steps down to the parking area, where souvenir shops line the square.
Your return trip to Luang Prabang takes in a stop at Wat Prabath, a Meditation Temple situated on a hillside from where you can enjoy lovely views and the opportunity to watch the sunset. Often, orange-clad monks can be seen mingling on the grounds of Wat Prabath. Back downtown, you may want to take a stroll through the night market before returning to the hotel. This evening, dinner will be served at one of Luang Prabang's popular restaurants.
Overnight accommodation at Victoria Xiengthong Palace Hotel - Luang Prabang.
DAY THREE - Luang Prabang / Bangkok
Optional: For early risers a special treat awaits. Near the hotel you can watch one of Luang Prabang's most fascinating rituals as hundreds of orange-robed monks begin their walk at dawn to collect alms from faithful residents. It is a great opportunity for some very unusual and memorable photographs.
After breakfast and check-out, discover the major sites of Luang Prabang. The beautiful setting, splendid scenery and blend of foreign influences have earned the town top billing as the country's showpiece. Located at an elevation of 2,296 feet (700 metres) above sea level, Luang Prabang is encircled by impressive mountains and wedged between the Mekong and Khan Rivers. As the former royal capital of the Lan Xang Kingdom, Luang Prabang has long been a centre of culture and preserved heritage.
The main attractions of this World Heritage Site can be seen within a short period of time and include ornate temples of and charming colonial architecture. A stop at Wat Mai lets you admire the most richly decorated of all the temples in Luang Prabang.
Next, visit the nearby Royal Palace Museum. Once the residence of the kings of Luang Prabang, exhibits feature a collection of personal memorabilia of the royal family, including photos, musical instruments and numerous gifts received from dignitaries of foreign countries. Many of the rooms have been preserved since the day of the revolution when the royal family was forced into exile. (Shoes have to be removed at the entrance to the museum.)
From here proceed to Wat Xieng Thong, the Temple of the Golden City and one of the most important temples in Laos. The temple's rear wall is adorned with one of the best known artworks in Laos - the exquisite Tree of Life mosaic.
Conclude your Laos' Discovery with a transfer to the airport and a two-hour flight to Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, where you are met and assisted with arrival formalities. Then, board your transfer coach that will bring you to the ship at Klong Toey Pier.
Please note: This Mid-Voyage Land Adventure requires an extensive amount of walking and climbing of steps at all sites visited, making the tour unsuitable for guests with limited mobility or those utilising a wheelchair.
