Tobago Plantations Golf & Country Club, to give it its full title, is an exciting golf course, located on the 750-acre Lowlands Estate. Previously a sugar cane plantation, this estate is being developed into a major tourist resort, incorporating the Magdalena Grand Beach Resort (formerly the Hilton Tobago), luxury villas and condominiums, bungalows and water sports facilities.
The flat terrain of the old plantation has been sensitively planned around the mature trees and landscape features. Designed by a British golf course designer, the trade winds from the adjacent Atlantic Ocean help to give this 7,000 yard course a distinct links feel. Some holes follow the coastline. Others, in stark contrast, weave their way through mature palm trees and mangroves. The artificial lakes and wetlands are rapidly becoming an important and significant habitat and breeding ground for migratory ducks and birds.
Course Statistics: Par 72 course of 7,005 yards. Four Par 5 holes (535-586 yds), ten Par 4's and four Par 3's.
Please note: The cost of this programme includes green fees for 18 holes, Callaway club rentals and a shared cart. Upon completion of your round of play, a taxi will be called by the pro shop for your return to the pier. Roundtrip taxi transfers are included. Proper golf attire is required for this course. For Gentlemen: polo shirts with collars, trousers or tailored shorts (shirts must be tucked in), soft spikes are compulsory, football shirts with collars are not considered appropriate attire. Depart the port and begin the tour along the Claude Noel Highway. After a short drive along this road, turn off onto Shirvon Road, passing several residential areas en route to the first stop at Fort James.
Mysterious Tombstone and Fort James
The fort was destroyed several times and the present one was erected in 1800. Another much quoted attraction is the enigmatic tombstone of Betty Stevens. Its puzzling inscription reads, "She was a mother without knowing it, and a wife, without letting her husband know, except by her kind indulgences to him." This epitaph has baffling people for over 230 years. After making your own guesses as to its' meaning continue on to the main event of your trip, The Tropical Garden and Nature Reserve.

French Guiana
martes 13 nov
Devil's Island is but one of the infamous penal colonies of the Iles du Salut archipelago.
Today, visitors arrive at Ile Royale, the larger of the two islands (out of three) which can be visited, to experience the haunting history of this former penal colony. Pathways allow you to circle the island and to wander among the overgrown ruins of prison cells and administrative buildings. A recent restoration program has been successful in recovering some of the buildings, one of which now houses a small museum. There is also a hotel, the Auberge Iles du Salut, providing modest tourist facilities.
From 1852 to 1948, the main penal colonies were established on the three French Salvation Islands to hold the most notorious criminals and political outcasts. Those who were sentenced to seven or more years and survived were required to remain in French Guiana for life. Of 80,000 prisoners sent to the islands, some 50,000 died here. Ile Royale housed the administrative centre and the wardens' accommodations. The complex was virtually a self-contained community with houses, offices, a hospital, bakery, butcher shop and church.
On nearby Devil's Island are the ruins of the facility used for housing political prisoners. Here the inmates were often left without guards, since strong currents and sharks made a getaway virtually impossible. To this day there are no proper facilities to land on Devil's Island and therefore visit is prohibited. All penal facilities in French Guiana were finally shut down in the 1940s.
The walking paths lead uphill, where the majority of the buildings, including the museum and the small hotel are located.
Walking on the island is on hilly and uneven paths; the road circling the island is mostly on flat ground. The climate is hot and humid. Wear lightweight clothing, a sun hat and your walking shoes to explore this remote and exotic location. Tenders will be operating continuously during our stay, so you may return to the ship at any time.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a self-exploration opportunity and advanced reservations are not required.

Discover the amazing natural splendour of Barbados from above-and-below-ground during this scenic, half-day sightseeing excursion.
Harrison's Cave, Stalactites, Stalagmites, Waterfalls, and Emerald Pools
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 40-minute drive past the residences of the Governor General and Prime Minister en route to the parish of St. Thomas, and a visit to Harrison's Cave. Upon arrival, board a tram for a guided tour of this unique natural phenomenon. Along the way, marvel at an amazing gallery of stalactites hanging from the roof of the cave, stalagmites that emerge from the ground, and streams of crystal-clear running water cascading from breath-taking waterfalls to deep emerald pools below. The stalactites and stalagmites were formed over thousands of years, and, in some areas, the stalactites and stalagmites merge to form spectacular pillars.

Your first stop features a unique opportunity to swim with sea turtles and marvel at these friendly denizens of the blue Caribbean Sea from up-close.
Shipwreck or Coral Reef, and Snorkelling, Tropical Fish and Marine Life
After, proceed for a guided snorkelling session over a nearby shipwreck or coral reef teeming with tropical fish and marine life. Complimentary beverages and snacks are served throughout your undersea excursion, and an open bar is available following your snorkelling session. At the conclusion of this panoramic adventure, return to the boat dock and re-board your coach for the short drive back to the pier.

St. John's Parish Church
Next, re-board your coach and proceed to St. John's Parish Church, located approximately 800 feet (about 244 metres) above sea level. Here, take in stunning vistas and photo opportunities overlooking the Atlantic Coast and southernmost tip of Barbados. Your guided tour also includes a visit to the burial place of Ferdinando Paleolgus, a descendent of Emperor Constantine the Great, whose family was driven from the throne of Constantinople by the Turks.
Orchid World
After a short coach ride, visit the gardens at Orchid World. Walk along meandering pathways and enjoy thousands of Orchids as well as the stunning views in the Orchid houses. The views of the coast line from this enchanting tropical flower garden are spectacular. Enjoy a complimentary beverage before commencing your drive back to the ship.
