Experience one of Europe's oldest cities, dating to the 4th century when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. A city rich in history with architectural treasures and home to delicious wines, discover in person its local gothic, baroque and neoclassical flare.
From Leixões port, a 30-minute drive brings you to downtown Oporto, where a sightseeing drive acquaints you with the major highlights and makes stops, where possible, allowing for photographs.
Oporto
Oporto, as it appears today, dates mainly from the 18th century when trade was booming. Merchants built fine houses and financed grand buildings for their city. As you drive along the Avenida dos Aliados, which stretches from Praça da Liberdade to Praça D. Joao, see some of the city's most impressive buildings such as the 18th-century Church of Clerigos and the austere Se Cathedral, where visit the interior of this 12th-century Romanesque building.
Douro River
Following a city orientation, head down to the Ribeira Quarter to enjoy a boat ride on the Douro River, providing you with a totally different panorama of Oporto's skyline. On the opposite bank you visit Vila Nova de Gaia, home to the port trade and numerous wine lodges. Here, warehouses continue a tradition dating to the 13th century with wine produced in the Douro Valley and transported here to mature in giant oak casks. Their brand-name port wines produced here are known worldwide. Visit one of the lodges and learn about the process of wine making before tasting a selection of these fine wines.
Afterwards, drive back to the port on your coach.
Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking, it is not suitable for guests with limited mobility or who utilise a wheelchair. We recommend comfortable clothing, walking shoes and sun protection. The order of sites visited on this tour may vary. Due to the distance from the area where the coaches can park and the location of the boats, please be advised that guests will be required to walk approx. 12 minutes on steep cobbled terrain.
Discover Oporto's culture and enjoy a sampling of local fine wine on this half-day exploration. The historic centre is of high aesthetic value, with evidence of urban development from the Roman, medieval, and Almadas periods.
Board an air-conditioned motor-coach at the pier and travel approximately 30 minutes to the city of Oporto, built along the hillsides overlooking the mouth of the Douro River, an outstanding urban landscape with a 2,000-year history.
Oporto
Upon arrival, you will make your way to the Cathedral of Oporto. The great opulence of the different materials used to decorate the church's interior reveals an eclecticism that is unique in Portugal. The design reflects its important role in commerce of the 19th century. Although this was originally a Gothic church, it has been transformed into one of the city's most important Baroque works.
Continuing on, visit the Stock Exchange Palace, a 19th-century gem of Arab and European influence with a fantastic Moorish hall.
Wine Cellar
Re-board the coach and proceed over the Douro River by way of the double-decker D. Luis I iron bridge, designed by Gustav Eiffel in 1875. Visit a well-known port wine cellar and listen as an informative guide explains the different stages of the production of wine. Proceed through the cellar amongst the oak casks and barrels. At the conclusion of your visit, enjoy a taste of the flavourful wine.
After the sampling of fine wine, return to the ship via your motor coach.
Please note: This tour requires a moderate amount of walking over some cobblestone walkways. A large stairway (25 steps) has to be negotiated to enter and leave the Stock Exchange Palace. Discover the picturesque beauty and historic landmarks of La Coruña and Betanzos during this half-day sightseeing excursion. La Coruña is an ancient city founded by Hercules, according to local beliefs, where Celts, Phoenicians and Romans have all occupied its port. Betanzos is a town with a lot to offer, especially to the visitor interested in medieval districts, grand churches and the genuine undiluted version of Galicia.
La Coruña
Depart the pier for the scenic drive along the coastal promenade, the longest in Europe. La Coruña is also known as the 'Crystal City' due to its many houses with windows that reflect sunlight, and façades built by fishermen out of wood and glass. Sights to be seen include the Gardens of Los Cantones, Castle of San Anton and Tower of Hercules, La Coruña's most important monument. This ancient, 180-foot-tall (55-metre-tall) beacon is the oldest Roman-built lighthouse in the world that is still used as a lighthouse. After a photo stop here, re-board your coach and continue on to Betanzos, approximately 40 minutes away.
Betanzos
One of the capitals of the old Galician kingdom, the village of Betanzos was declared a historical and artistic monument in 1970, and is home to one of the best-preserved old quarters in Galicia. Upon arrival in Betanzos, take a guided walking tour through its narrow streets, past typical old houses and up the hill.

Continuing the walk you will reach a narrow point from where it can be understood how small the city is in certain points of this Peninsula. From Plaza Pontevedra your guide will explain in detail how the city grew into the protected side and left the part of the beaches more untouched due to the heavy winds and strong sea.
City Market
As you near the market, continue to view even more modernist buildings. Once at the market take in the sights, sounds and smells that make up what is the only typical market left in the city with different fish and seafood; Galician products, fruit, meat, etc. Stop and enjoy a taste of the local flavours of wine and the local produce from this region.

Depart from the pier for your one hour and 30 minutes drive to Rouen, with its skyline dominated by towers and spires. Rouen, the capital of higher Normandy, has held great importance since the times of the Roman Empire due to its location as the lowest bridging-point on the Seine. The alignment of its two main streets (Rue du Gros Horloge and Rue des Carmes) still reflects the layout of the early city.

Early in the morning on June 6, 1944, about 156,000 Allied soldiers stormed a handful of beaches along the coast of Normandy, France. The majority of the nearly 10,000 American soldiers killed at Omaha Beach are buried in this 170-acre (69-hectare) cemetery on land given to the United States by France as a token of her gratitude. Here, 9,386 marble crosses and Stars of David are aligned on a plateau above the beach. A memorial contains the Tablets of the Missing, and a map outlines the battle sites of the Normandy beaches.

This leisurely half day coach tour is a great way to obtain an overall impression of one of the most lively and interesting cities in the world. A city that welcomes you to its red buses and friendly 'Bobbies', great churches, imposing statues and many elegant pubs.
London and the West End
Commence the tour in the 'City', and then continue to the `West End`, the part of central London west of the City's limits. London would not be London without its captivating `square mile` of old City - the historic and intriguing area around which modern London as we know it has grown and where the medieval and Georgian atmosphere still survives.
Westminster, Whitehall and St. James's
Pass Westminster, Whitehall and St. James's section of London, the coach then crosses Westminster Bridge, and passes by the neo-Gothic Parliament buildings presiding over the banks of the River Thames and its adjacent 320 foot clock tower of Big Ben. From Parliament Square look across to St. Margaret's Church. Standing adjacent is the architectural and masterpiece of the 13th to 16th centuries - Westminster Abbey. It represents a unique pageant of British history as the setting for every Coronation since 1066, and for numerous other Royal occasions. The Guide will point out the main external features of the building and a photo stop is made to take photographs of the outside.
Boarding the coach you will then see Whitehall, passing the end of Downing Street and the Cenotaph war memorial and past Horse Guard's Parade. Afterwards travel along the broad triumphal approach to Buckingham Palace - The Mall which is lined on one side by the delightful St. James's Park, a quiet and relaxed oasis with its flowerbeds and its ducks and pelicans on the lake. James's Palace; still the Court's official headquarters and adjacent Clarence House Clarence House - London home of Prince Charles and Princes William and Harry. Pass the Admiralty Arch which separates courtly London from the hurly burly of Trafalgar Square that stands imposing Nelson's Column.
Afterwards leave the hustle and bustle of central London and head to Heathrow airport to connect with your outbound flight.
Please note: This tour is offered to guests disembarking the ship with flights from London Heathrow International Airport at 3:00pm or later and will end at the airport. It requires a minimal amount of walking. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and those who utilise a wheelchair; however, guests must be able to embark and disembark the coach via the coach steps. Operation is subject to minimum participation. The tour sequence may vary.
