Join us to experience the highlights of Melanesia; the true gems of the region. Starting in Lautoka, Silver Explorer will sail through Melanesia via Vanuatu, the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. This voyage will lead you from underwater wonders to blue lagoons and islands with active volcanoes where one can swim and snorkel, watch for dolphins and look for seabirds. Hike for panoramic views and study volcanoes at the Volcano Observatory. Meet local communities and prepare to be impressed by the friendliness of the Pacific Islanders. Throughout the voyage, learn about the history, geology, wildlife and botany of these locations from lecture presentations offered by your knowledgeable onboard Expedition Team.
Yasawa Islands, Fiji –
The lovely Yasawa Island is reached via the turquoise waters of Buasali Bay. Hilltops of Yasawa Island offer panoramic views, while the swimming or snorkelling in the bay or in a cave on Sawa-i-Lau is a highlight as well. Residents offer a warm welcome in the village of Nabukeru.
Pentecost and Ambrym, Vanuatu –
Vanuatu is a nation of contrasts. On Pentecost Island daring young men dive headfirst from a 30-meter tower, connected by lengths of natural vine, in a ceremony meant to welcome the yam harvest. The island of Ambrym is home of the famed “Rom” dance and sand drawings that were recognized by UNESCO for their cultural significance.
Champagne Beach, Vanuatu –
At Espiritu Santo’s most famous beach it is possible to snorkel and see an array of sea life, to swim and simply to relax on the picture-perfect beach or in the shade of giant Barringtonia and Alexandrian laurel.
Njari Island, Solomon Islands –
While this is one of the smallest of the Solomon Islands, the rarely visited little Njari Island is a snorkeler’s dream, boasting one of the highest species counts of fish and coral species ever recorded in a single dive.
Rabaul, Papua New Guinea –
Papua New Guinea is rich in natural history as well as historical importance not only dating back to World War II. Rabaul’s highlights include the local markets, the Volcano Observatory, museums in Kokopo, and panoramic views of Blanche Bay and the Duke of York Islands.
Dei Dei Hot Springs, Fergusson Island, Papua New Guinea –
