Silversea Luxury Cruises Nach Rab

Rab

Rab presents an utterly schizophrenic landscape. When you drive southward, down the Magistrala, you see that the island resembles the humped back of a diving sea monster. Once you've mounted this beast, via a short ferry ride from Jablanac to Mišnjak, you travel along the center of its back, which is almost entirely bald to the north, letting all its hair hang out to the south. The high northern coast, which bears the brunt of the northern Bora winds, is dry, rocky, and barren. View more

Crouching below this crusty ledge, the southern half of the island could hardly differ more, and has possibly the lushest terrain found on any Croatian island. Low, green hills dip into the seas, while the ancient Dundo forest grows so voraciously that it's almost impossible to walk in.

Experience the stunning natural beauty, landmarks and culture of Rab Island in a unique new way during this invigorating, half-day excursion via bicycle.

Rab Town

Receive your safety and bicycling instructions, then don your bicycle helmet and depart the pier for your guided sightseeing adventure of Rob Island. The small town of Rab was encircled by medieval walls in the 12th century. Today, parts of the walls can still be seen along the cliffs and in a few places close to the harbour. This historic town was founded in Roman times along a narrow tongue of land, so when travellers approached from the sea, they could see it proudly atop the head of the bay.

Promenade, St. Bernardin Monastery, Interior Church, Ethnographic Collection

After passing through the streets of Rab Town and down the Promenade to the new part of town, proceed for a visit to the St. Bernardin Monastery. Located on a little bay at the end of the Rab Peninsula, the St. Bernardin Monastery is still known by locals as the 'St. Euphemia Monastery'. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of this renowned historic landmark and its interior church, which were painted by Venetian painters throughout the 17th and 18th century. During your visit, view the Ethnographic Collection of old crafts, sculptures, paintings, and books. The books are referred to as 'incunabule', which means that they were printed in the first 50 years after Guttenberg printing office opened up in Germany and completely revolutionized the printing industry.

Suha Punta, Frkanj Peninsula, Woods, Refreshment and Beach Stop, Promenade, Rab Town

Next, your ride continues by the sea, along the gravel road. Pass by the heliport and join the road to Suha Punta. En route, in the middle of the serpentine bend, there is a ramp with an excellent gravel road leading to the Frkanj Peninsula. After approximately 1.24 miles (about two kilometres) of riding along the gravel road through Mediterranean vegetation, cross over to the other side of the Frkanj Peninsula and towards the open sea. Upon arrival, a refreshment and beach stop is made to relax and/or take an optional swim in the inviting waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Following your beach visit, commence the approximately one-hour ride back to the pier via the Promenade and historic Rab Town.
