Exkursionen in Qui Nhon

A Glimpse at Qui Nhon and Countryside

Enjoy a roving tour of Qui Nhon, a sea port city that was also the capital of King Nguyen Hue, a Vietnamese hero in 17th century. Leave the port for a city drive through main streets in this very calm city along the coastal line. Qui Nhon was also the capital of the Champa Kingdom in the 9th century. Much evidence of the city's past glory, such as towers, walls and dykes can be found in and around the metropolis. The prominent Doi Cham towers, where God Shiva is worshipped, marked a period of great development of Champa kingdom, and is a stop on the tour.


Qui Nhon Museum

Visit the Qui Nhon city museum, which has original exhibits dating from the Champa Kingdom, including statues of Hindu Gods and exhibits of the past wars; another reminder of a glorious past of which the local people are so proud. The museum also provides an overview Qui Nhon history, culture and economy.


Whale Temple

Continue to drive to the Whale Temple to see how local people worship whales that have been believed as the God who salvage all those who had accidents on the sea. Bone of whales have been collected and kept in coffins.


Cham Doi Tower

Leave the Whale Temple for the Cham Doi towers, famous for their ancient lineage and impressive stature. These structures date back to the 13th century and were worshipped by the Cham people in devotion to the God Shiva, who is one of three main deities of Hinduism.


Rice Paper Making

Visit a local family who makes rice paper that is the typical food in Vietnam. Watch and learn as rice powder is mixed with water and coconut milk and sesame seed as a paste, formed into round papers and added to boiling water. Try your rice paper, which can be eaten fresh or used to warp other food such as pork, shrimps, vegetables.

Local Market

Continue on to the largest market in downtown Qui Nhon, where local people go to the market every day for foods. Walk past arrays of food, vegetables, local fruits of all kinds and other items for purchase.


Qui Nhon Beach

Finally, at a sandy beach cooled by a gentle breeze, enjoy coconut juice and relax before returning to the port.

A Unique Experience at Bana – Ethnic Minority Village

Qui Nhon is a sea port city that is also the country of Nguyen Hue, a Vietnamese heroic king in 17th century. When Nguyen Hue rose up to fight against Nguyen Lords, Chinese Tsing troops, he was supported by many Bana ethnic minority.


Bana groups are living around Qui Nhon together with other minority such as the Cham and the Hore. The Bana minority embraces a matrilineal system, with inheritance passing through the mother. Women marry men by offering things such as cows, pigs, woods.


The Bana play bronze gongs very well. Recently Gong music has been recognized as the World Non-Physical Heritage.

The Bana's communal house is also a special place for community rituals, settling disputes.


Leave the port for Van Canh sub-district. Enjoy the landscape of the countryside on both sides of the road. On arrival, take a short walk in the village. Stop to visit the Bana minority's houses, kitchen, pig pen. Try some local activities such as mortaring rice and corn, or watch the locals at work.


Enjoy the chance to chat with the village chief and hear his minority legends. Visit the communal house to hear traditional gong music played by the local men and women in the village and see traditional dance.


Try the jar wine specially made by the Bana people. Because the Bana practice a matriarchal system, women start tasting the wine first.
