Popular since Roman times when the emperors built their villas on Capri, this island is surely one of the world's most famous and beautiful spots. Visiting Capri, it is easy to see why the ancient Romans fell in love with this place 2,000 years ago - the craggy mountains, the sea caves and grottos and the brilliantly colored flowers cast a magic spell then and still capture the admiration of today's travelers. There are sleek yachts moored in the deep blue waters of the bays, and beautiful villas and tiny villages cling to steep slopes. An excellent year-round climate and a breathtaking landscape complete the picture of a storybook island. There are two main villages - Capri Town, site of the popular meeting point "Piazzetta," and Anacapri, the upper town, dominated by 1,750-foot-high Monte Solaro, the highest point on the island. Both remain the "in" scene for international travelers. By spending millions on comfort and style, the island has ensured its continuing success. After a trip to upper-level Anacapri, visitors enjoy strolling the narrow, cobbled streets of Capri Town, browsing in chic boutiques and spending time in the Piazzetta with a drink in one of the outdoor cafés. There is a funicular from the main port of Marina Grande to Capri Town; from Anacapri, a chair lift whisks visitors to the top of Monte Solaro for a spellbinding view. The magical Blue Grotto can be reached by boat from Marina Grande, but entrance into the grotto depends for the most part on sea conditions. Please Note: For your convenience, the shore excursions offered for this port of call are available to reserve in advance at www.silversea.com until August 8 , as well as offered for purchase on board, unless otherwise noted in the description. Going Ashore in Capri Pier Information The ship is scheduled to anchor off Capri's main port, Marina Grande. Guests will be taken ashore via local tenders, arriving at the pier just a short distance from the funicular to Capri Town. Taxis and minibuses are also available near the pier area. Be sure to agree on the fare before starting out. Shopping Capri is a shopping mecca, though by no means inexpensive. Upscale shops and boutiques offer an array of jewelry, designer fashions, resort wear, straw articles and souvenir items. Start from the Piazzetta and the streets fanning out from the square. Some shops may be closed between 12:30/1:00 p.m. and 4:00/4:30 p.m. The local currency is the euro. Cuisine Capri features plenty of open-air eateries in addition to top rated restaurants. Fresh seafood and delicious pasta dishes make for a nice lunch; for a quick meal there are tempting sandwiches and pizza. You might enjoy a hearty Italian table wine with lunch. Other Sights Capri Town La Piazzetta is the main square of Capri Town located just opposite the upper funicular station. The square is an ideal place from where to start exploring or shopping. Sidewalk cafés around the square provide residents and visitors with a popular pastime - people-watching while sipping a drink or enjoying a coffee.   Anacapri Reaching Capri's second town is via local minibus. In addition to numerous souvenir shops and designer boutiques, attractions include Axel Munthe's Villa San Michele and the chair lift to Monte Solaro. Blue Grotto Boat excursions to the Blue Grotto can be booked locally at Marina Grande. Be aware that it is necessary to transfer into smaller boats in front of the grotto. Also, entrance to the grotto is subject to weather and sea conditions. For this reason, tours to the Blue Grotto are frequently cancelled. Private arrangements are not available in this port.

Ancient Pompei & Sorrento Coast

Ancient Pompeii & Sorrento Coast

Duration: 7,5 Hours

After tendering ashore, board the scheuded hydrofoil and crusie through the Gulf of Naples to Naples. Upon arrival, a drive of approximately 30-40 minutes takes you to the excavated town of Pompeii. En route, you may be able to catch a glimpse of Mount Vesuvius.

The famous archaeological site of Pompeii is regarded as the world's finest example of an ancient Roman town, and offers visitors an insight into the life of a bygone era. Buried for centuries, it was not until 1748 that the Pompeii was rediscovered and its excavations began.

Pompeii

Upon arrival in Pompeii, your guided walking tour begins through the ancient streets, providing a unique opportunity to learn about the historical events and the tragic end of the city's 20,000 people. The catastrophic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. surprised the population of this prosperous provincial capital and resort town, burying it under 20 feet (6 metres) of ash and pumice stone, yet preserving an entire city.

City Tour

See the mansions and artwork of the wealthy residents who moved to Pompeii to escape the turmoil of Ancient Rome. On display are numerous paintings and inscriptions, including notices about wine sales, apartment vacancies, upcoming events, political announcements, and even personal love notes. In addition to several homes, highlights also include the Forum, open and covered theatres, and the Stabian Baths. The pathways are endless and the buildings fascinating. Some of the mansions still retain their original marble decorations, well-preserved frescoes and splendid mosaics.

Following your visit to this amazing site, enjoy lunch at local restaurant with wine.

Then return to the coach parking area and re-board your coach for the drive back to Sorrento, where you will enjoy speldong views of the Coast. Once reached Sorrento pier, board the scheuduled hydrofoil for the cruise back to Capri and your ship.

Please note: This tour takes place entirely on-foot, and involves extensive walking on cobblestones and uneven surfaces. This tour is not recommended for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

Discover Capri on Foot & Its Views

After tendering ashore, board a private minibus and drive to Capri Town. Here your guide will walk with you to the Piazzetta, the town's main hub and meeting place for residents and visitors. Your guide will escort you through the narrow streets and then continue the walking up to Punta Tragara from where you will enjoy a spectacular view of the Faraglioni Rocks.

Then follow your guide along cobblestone streets to the Augustus Gardens. From there you'll have panoramic views, including the famous Faraglioni Rocks.

At the end of your deep walking tour, relax and enjoy an aperitif by a beautiful panoramic roof top overlooking the Bay of Capri.

At the end, you may decide to follow your guide for the transfer back to the ship or you may return later on your own.

Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately 2 miles (approximately 2 hours) over rough stone and cobblestone streets with numerous steps. It is recommended that guests wear flat, comfortable shoes. Capri Town is pedestrian only. As this excursion involves walking over uneven surfaces and stair climbing, it is not recommended for guests who are wheelchair bound or who have walking difficulties.

Exclusive Capri & Lunch at Michelin 4 Passi

After tendering ashore, board a typical wooden boat to begin your island tour of Capri from the sea. Capri's rugged coastland is honeycombed with grottoes, gorges and surrounded by rocky formations. Mediterranean plants are found everywhere. There are approximately 850 species to be found on the island, including plants from the gardens of ancient Roman villas such as Tarantine Myrtle, Acanthus and Sarsaparilla. Citrus and olive trees, as well as vines and vegetables are widely cultivated here.

As you cruise around the island (approximately 1.5 hours), view the Tiberious Villa. During the last ten years of his reign, the Emperor Tiberius is said to have ruled from this villa. Pass the entrance of the blue grotto as well as the main beaches of Capri located in "Marina Piccola" and the "Bianca Grotto."

Then, if the weather permits, enjoy the visit of the Blue Grotto the cavern known for its iridescent blue waters. To access the cave, you will climb aboard a small rowboat and enter the low, narrow mouth of the cave. Once inside, you will marvel at the grotto's intense blue hue and the silvery glow that radiates from the objects immersed in the waters below.

After this unique experience, proceed to Sorrento Coast to the Bay of Nerano where you will enjoy lunch at the Michelin-rated 4 Passi restaurant.

Upon arrival, you will be welcome by an expert sommelier who will draw upon his own experience to reveal their authentic wines, inside an antique wine cellar for an aperitif. This excellent wine cellar is dug out of the tufa rock, and well-stocked with the finest Italian and international labels. Next, commence a delicious lunch with local wine.

After lunch, reboard your private motorboat and return to your ship.

Note: Guests will be required to embark/disembark vessels that sit low in the water. This excursion; therefore, is not suitable for guests with physical limitations.

The visit of the Blue Grotto is subject to weather and sea conditions. Should the Blue Grotto be closed, guests could debark in Capri pier and visit Capri Town

Helicopter Adventure Above The Guld of Naples & The Island Capri

Silver Shore Collection - Helicopter Adventure above the Gulf of Naples and the Isle of Capri

Duration: 7 Hours

$ per heli

Embrace the scenic beauty of the Gulf of Naples in a unique new way during this scenic flight-seeing tour along the Amalfi Coast, a guided tour of Capri and lunch at the island's celebrated 5-star Grand Hotel Quisisana.

After tendering ashore, depart the pier via private taxi for the transfer to the Helicopter Terminal. Following your safety and tour instructions, board the helicopter and prepare for takeoff.

Helicopter Flight

Once airborne, the flight heads in the direction of the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, and offers spectacular vistas of steep cliffs and picturesque villages. Next, fly over the archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, excavated towns that were destroyed by the disastrous eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. and close by the symbol of the Bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius, the still-active volcano which features a lava river formed by the last eruption in 1944.

Capri

Upon landing, take a private taxi transfer to the Blue Grotto's boat dock, then board a rowboat for a visit inside the famous cavern. In case of very bad sea conditions, the Blue Grotto visit is replaced by a visit to Axel Munthe's in Anacapri, or the chair-lift to Monte Solaro.

Lunch at the Grand Hotel Quisisana

Next, transfer via private taxi to Capri Town. Upon arrival, walk to the 5-star Grand Hotel Quisisana for a three-course lunch, choosing from the menu of the day.

Augustus Gardens

After lunch, take a guided stroll to the beautifully-landscaped Augustus Gardens for splendid views and photo opportunities. Following your visit, some free time is made available for shopping before a private taxi transfer to Marina Grande, where the ship is tendering.

Please note: This tour requires advance booking at silversea.com by the date listed below. Cancellations received after this deadline will incur penalty charges of up to 100%, which will be billed to your shipboard account. The flying time is approximately 45 minutes. This tour is priced per-helicopter, based on two guests per helicopter. The helicopter seats up to four, and a third and fourth guest may be added for an additional cost of $249 per person. Please see the Tour Desk onboard to confirm the number of passengers in your private helicopter. Capri Town is open to pedestrian traffic only, and requires an extensive amount of walking on uneven surfaces, and up-and-down hills. The tour sequence may be reversed. The visit inside the Blue Grotto is subject to weather and sea conditions. In case of very bad sea conditions, the Blue Grotto visit is replaced by a visit to Axel Munthe's in Anacapri, or the chair-lift to Monte Solaro.

This tour may be operated on the reverse order.

Experience the splendid sights, landmarks and shopping of Capri during this memorable, half-day excursion to Anacapri and Capri Town.

Anacapri

After tendering ashore, meet your guide, walk to the mini-bus station and board a local mini-bus for the scenic drive up to Anacapri. Located at 1,000 feet (305 metres) above sea level, Anacapri is the highest village on the island. Upon arrival at Anacapri's central square, you may opt to take a guided stroll to the 18th-century Villa San Michele. This villa's beautiful, hand-painted majolica tile floor depicts an 18th-century vision of the Garden of Eden.

Monte Solaro

Alternatively, near the main square, you may opt to board the chair lift for a thrilling ride and breathtaking views of the Bay of Naples en route to the peak of Monte Solaro. During your visit to Anacapri, some free time is also made available for independent shopping and exploration before re-boarding the mini-bus for the drive to Capri Town.

Capri Town

Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of the main centre, including the Piazzetta, Via Camerelle and the Augustus Gardens, which offers panoramic views of your surroundings and the famous Faraglioni Rocks.

Afterward, some free time is made available to browse the numerous boutiques and souvenir shops at your leisure before meeting your guide and returning to the pier. If you opt to remain in the town centre for additional shopping and exploration, you may obtain a funicular ticket from your guide and return to the ship at your leisure.

Please note: This tour requires an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.5 miles (about 2.4 kilometres), at times over uneven surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the minibus and approximately 30 steps at the sites visited. Anacapri and Capri Town are pedestrian-only. Expect crowds and lines at the mini-bus and funicular stations. Some mini-buses are air-cooled. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.
