Silversea Expedition Cruises Nach Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires

Glamorous and gritty, Buenos Aires is two cities in one. What makes Argentina's capital so fascinating is its dual heritage—part European, part Latin American. Plaza de Mayo resembles a grand square in Madrid, and the ornate Teatro Colón would not be out of place in Vienna. But you’ll know you’re in South America by the leather shoes for sale on cobbled streets and impromptu parades of triumphant soccer fans. Limited-production wines, juicy steaks, and ice cream in countless flavors are among the old-world imports the city has perfected.

Disembark in Buenos Aires this morning and transfer directly to the domestic airport for your flight to Mendoza. Upon arrival, transfer to the Posada Salentein estate. Lunch is served at the estate before setting out for a tour of the estate. The Salentein estate consists of 2,000 hectares (4,942 acres), res (1,124 acres) of which are planted to grapes in three estate "fincas". The fincas, where grapes are grown at a range of altitudes among the highest in the world, are irrigated with pure mountain run-off, which creates lower pH in the grape, resulting in higher acidity, more color in the wine, and greater ageability. The region´s thermal amplitude ranges as much as 16°C (29°F) from daytime highs to nighttime lows.

Requests received after this date may be accommodated on a space-available basis and the programme price is subject to change. Payment in full is due within 120 days prior to sailing. This programme is non-refundable if cancelled within 90 days of sailing. A minimum number of participants is required to operate this programme.

This Mid-Voyage Land Adventure is only available to guests combining voyages 6802 and 6803.

DAY ONE - BUENOS AIRES / CALAFATE

Depart the ship and transfer to Buenos Aires' domestic for a scheduled 3 hour economy-class flight to El Calafate. Upon arrival, you are met and directed to the coach for the drive to the hotel for lunch and check-in.

Your adventure begins this afternoon as you go out for a 4 x 4 ride and your first real experience with the breathtaking scenery. From a natural viewpoint at 450 meters high (nearly 1,500 feet), look out over Lago Argentino. Continue upward to approximately 1030 meters (nearly 3,400 feet) to see the Devil's Mouth and Avellaneda Peninsula. If the weather is cooperative, you'll see peaks stretching all the way to Chile.

Return to town and enjoy a bit of free time before dinner is served at a local restaurant.

Overnight at the Imago Hotel - Calafate, Argentina

DAY TWO - CALAFATE

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the hotel this morning, and prepare for the day out of doors. Meet your guide and transfer to the star of Los Glacieres National Park - the Perito Moreno Glacier. Vast and remote, this glacier is one of the few in the world that is still advancing. One other special trait is a distinct advantage for visitors. The glacier is situated on a narrow lake making it easy for unusually close observations. In fact, from the shore you'll likely be able to hear the eeries sounds that carry across the water.

Your adventure continues aboard a boat (shared with other sightseers) to approach the glacier. Because of the blocks of ice that are constantly shedding from the face of the glacier, you will stop about 300 meters (980 feet). You will be close enough, however, to appreciate the ice sheet's staggering enormity!

Return to the shore and your motorcoach. Stop for lunch before leaving the National Park, then return to town. Enjoy some free time in the small town of El Calafate. Dinner this evening is served at your hotel.

Overnight at the Imago Hotel

DAY THREE - CALAFATE / BUENOS AIRES

Enjoy some free time this morning after breakfast. Depart for the airport at mid-day with a stop for lunch along the way. The 3+ hour return trip will whisk you back to cosmopolitan Buenos Aires. Meet your transportation at the airport and transfer to your hotel. You may have as much as 1.5 - 2 hours to relax or explore the city on your own.

Dinner tonight is highlighted by a performance of the quintessential national dance of Argentina - the tango. Return to your hotel at the end of the show for a good night's rest.

Overnight at the Park Tower Hotel - Buenos Aires

DAY FOUR - BUENOS AIRES / MONTEVIDEO

Following breakfast this morning you will have a comprehensive tour of the highlights of Buenos Aires. Begin your tour with a visit to the La Boca District. Along the way, see the colourful buildings of the 'barrio' and the brightly-painted walls, murals and sculptures during a stroll down the famous pedestrian street of El Caminito. Continue on to the charming streets of San Telmo, where mansions of yesteryear have been subdivided into crowded one- and two-bedroom dwellings known as 'conventillos'. From here, drive to the downtown area and take a stroll through May Square, or 'Plaza de Mayo'. Along the way, visit the historic Government House and Cathedral.

Your tour concludes with a brief stop at the La Recoleta Cemetery, the oldest in the city. In addition to its lavish marble statuary, mausoleums and tombs, La Recoleta is renowned for the esteemed national figures that are interred here, notably Eva (Evita) Perón.

A brief lunch stop will be made enroute to the airport. Check-in for your 1 hour flight to Montevideo. You will be met after collecting your luggage and completing the necessary entrance formalities. Rejoin the ship before she continues her northbound journey.

01MIDBUE-G Mid-Voyage Land Adventure: Iguassu Falls (In-Transit Guests Only)

Departure: From Buenos Aires

Duration: 2 Days / 1 Night

Rejoin Ship: in Buenos Aires

Reserve by: November 08, 2017

This Mid-Voyage Land Adventure is only available to guests continuing on to the following cruise.

Visit one of the great natural wonders of the world, Iguassu Falls. Both Brazil and Argentina have declared their side of the falls a national park, and views from either side are spectacular and different. The whole area is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition to a magical landscape, the dense forest surrounding the falls is inhabited by over 400 different species of birds. The awesome cataracts are fed from some 30 rivers which climax in an extraordinary spectacle when some 300 separate "falls" form a horseshoe and thunder over a 2.5-mile- wide precipice in a great, mist-laden torrent. Higher and wider as Niagara, Iguassu never fails to ensure an unforgettable experience.

DAY ONE - BUENOS AIRES / IGUAZU FALLS

Depart the ship and transfer to Buenos Aires' domestic for a scheduled 1h 45 flight to Puerto Iguazu. Upon arrival, you are met and then board the coach for the drive to the Argentine side of the falls.

Lunch will be served at a restaurant inside the National Park.

This afternoon visit this side of the falls with a stop at the Visitors' Centre followed by a walking tour of the Superior Circuit, the up-river cascades and the down-river falls. Board the Ecological Jungle Train that will take you to the most impressive observation point - the Devil's Throat where the Iguazú River crashes down almost 262 feet (80 metres), creating an awesome spectacle.

The main trail of approximately 1,744 yards (1,600 metres) leads to the base of the biggest waterfall. Here a catwalk extends out over the brink of a series of falls, providing a good general view of the falls. The catwalk takes you close to Devil's Throat where you can observe the full force of this gigantic fall as its waters crash down with earth-shaking noise. Rising mist often culminates in brilliant rainbows. Your walk ends at a tower with an elevator to the top, from where you can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view and great photo opportunities.

At the end of the afternoon, return to your transportation for the ride to the Brazilian side. En route, there is a Customs' check at the Tancredo Neves bridge, which crosses the Iguazu River and marks the border between Brazil and Argentina.

Check in to your hotel upon arrival. Dinner this evening is served in the hotel.

Overnight at the Belmond Das Cataratas - Foz do Iguazu, Brazil

DAY TWO - IGUAZU FALLS / BUENOS AIRES

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel this morning. Then, experience the falls from a completely different perspective.

The Iguazú Park is a huge tropical rainforest that has been declared a World Heritage Site; it is one of the largest forest reserves in South America. Countless flora and fauna species thrive here. The thundering falls, however, is the main attraction. Take an elevator down to the base of the waterfalls and stop right above the river level. From a 1,000-meter footbridge, you will be able to admire the majestic Iguazú Falls or go up an elevator to the Salto Floreano viewpoint.

At the end of the tour, return to the coach and transfer back to the Argentinian side and the Puerto Iguazu airport for the short (1h 45) flight to Buenos Aires. A boxed lunch will be provided.

Before leaving the airport in Buenos Aires, collect your luggage and follow your escort to the waiting transportation that will return you to Silver Muse.

Please note: We recommend wearing lightweight clothing and bringing sunscreen, insect repellent, light raingear and a swimsuit if you want to take a refreshing dip in the hotel's pool. Heavy spray can be experienced at some points. Be sure to protect your camera from getting wet. Walking is extensive along pathways and footbridges on both sides of the falls. Expect the weather to be tropical and humid. Guests must carry their passport, including the Brazilian visa.
