Silversea Expedition Cruises Nach Broome

Broome

Roughly 15,000 people live year-round in Broome perched on the edge of the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The population swells to over 45,000 during the tourist season as people from all over the world are drawn to the natural splendors of the Dampier Peninsula. Broome is surrounded by lush green mangroves and mudflats along Roebuck Bay, but the interior is dry and rugged like much of the Kimberley coast. View more

The town of Broome started up around a nascent pearling industry that attracted Japanese, Chinese, Malay and Aboriginal divers to the area in an interesting mix of cultures. Chinatown is still the center of town, but nowadays the pearls are produced in modern aquaculture facilities. Visitors can ride a camel on Cable Beach or simply enjoy a cocktail here as the sun slips below the horizon.

SCUBA Diving on the Silver Discoverer

Explore the "Last Frontier" aboard the Silver Discoverer. A spectacular underwater world awaits with our optional dive programme available on this voyage. Your certified SUBA Dive Master will guide you on an adventure through some of the most breath-taking, exotic and pristine waters in the world.

While we strive for all of our guests to be able to fully experience each port during their cruise, the safety of our guests is always our paramount concern. As such, to ensure the safety of our guests, our SCUBA Dive Programmes have strict requirements. Each individual guest wishing to participate in our Dive Programme is required to complete our Silversea SCUBA documentation form and return it to the Silver Shore Concierge Department prior to embarking the cruise. Please contact our Silversea Reservations Department to receive this form.

Please note: All guests must submit the required documentation prior to embarkation. Guests will only be confirmed on the tour when all documentation is received and approved. Space on our Scuba programs is very limited and we recommend that guests book early to avoid disappointment. Exact ports where dives will be offered will be determined by the dive master, depending on weather, tide, and marine life movements. Guests must bring their own SCUBA BCDs, regulators and dive equipment. The ship will provide weight belts and tanks.

4NT PRE-CRUISE: THE CALL OF THE KIMBERLY

Embrace the spectacular natural beauty, history and landmarks of Australia during this unforgettable expedition. Kakadu is a biological wonderland, teeming with mammal, reptile, bird and insect life. There are nearly 60 species of mammal found here, and the flood plains are a paradise for waterbirds. But Kakadu is not only home to the wildlife. The area boasts the longest continuous surviving human culture in the world. Aborigines have been living in this region for at least 40,000 years.

Discover another breathtaking area of Australia from the luxury and comfort of the luxury tented camp at Longitude 131, including dinner under the stars in the quietest restaurant on earth.

Please check with your travel professional for details regarding visa requirements for Australia. It is the responsibility of the guest to obtain appropriate visa documents before your cruise.

Please note this program begins in Darwin, Australia.

DAY 1 - DARWIN

Upon your arrival in Darwin, the local Silversea representative will meet you and assist with your transfer to the Sky City Darwin. The balance of the day and all meals are on your own.

Overnight at the Sky City Darwin, Darwin, Australia

DAY 2 - DARWIN / BERKELEY RIVER LODGE

Following breakfast you will want to store your excess luggage at the hotel and meet the local representative in order to transfer to the airport for the charter flight to Berkeley River Lodge. Your flight will take you to one of the last true wilderness areas on earth, The Kimberley. Only accessible by air, getting to the Berkeley is half the adventure.

Arrive at the lodge and settle in to your comfortable accommodations. You have a selection of activities each day including river and coastal cruises, beach and bush 4WD excursions, fishing and guided walks. Helicopter touring is available at an additional cost and should be reserved early to avoid disappointment.

A number of the activities are guided by resident specialist guides.

Return to the Lodge at the end of your excursion. Dinner is served tonight at the Lodge.

Overnight at Berkeley River Lodge, Northern Territory

DAY 3 - BERKELEY RIVER LODGE

Fortify yourself with a good breakfast this morning, then set out with your fellow Lodge guests on your selected activities. Among your choices:

Berkeley River Cruise (5-6 hours): You may elect to take a cruise on the purpose-built 'Brolga' for the 23 km journey along the Berkeley River. The resident skipper and/or biologist make this experience even better by pointing out geological formations, flora and fauna and resident animal species like saltwater crocodiles, rock wallabies and more.

Several stops will be made during your excursion, including the spectacular Casuarina Falls and an opportunity to swim and explore the waterholes at Berkeley Creek. Refreshments and lunch are provided.

Beach Drive (1h 30): A leisurely morning or afternoon drive during low tide along the beach front. With luck you'll spot local critters like saltwater crocodiles, a variety of sea birds and maybe even a shark swimming close to the tideline.

Bush Drive (1h 30): Take a drive through the grasslands of the area by 4WD. The driver will note points of interest along the way as well as native flora and fauna.

Guided Hiking - Tank Hill Trail (2 - 2.5 hours): - Departing the Berkeley River, walk along the ridge of the dunes facing the sea on one side and grasslands and Mount Casuarina on the other. This is a beginner-level hike.

Fishing (2 - 6 hours): The diversity in both habitats and species makes for exciting fishing experiences on the Berkeley River. Common species in the area include Queen Fish, Threadfin Salmon, Mulloway, Mangrove Jacks. For a real challenge, as the fishing guides to take you into the creeks and mangroves where the 'fresh meets salt' - prime locations for Barramundi. Depending on your catch, the Executive Chef can prepare a special lunch or dinner.

Overnight at Berkeley River Lodge

DAY 4 - BERKELEY RIVER LODGE

Enjoy breakfast at the Lodge again this morning. Then take advantage of the activities on offer for the day.

Overnight at Berkeley River Lodge
