Pieter de Vries,
ACS, Cinematographer and Filmmaker
Pieter de Vries is an internationally recognised Cinematographer and Filmmaker and has photographed many acclaimed television series over thirty seven years spanning around eighty six countries. He has received world-wide recognition and numerous awards for his cinematography which has featured on NBC, BBC, History, Discovery and National Geographic Channels, ZDF Germany, NZBC and ABC Australia.
As an ACS accredited Director of Photography, Pieter has reached the highest levels of his craft and has contributed to much loved programs hosted by Sir David Attenborough and collaborated with Canadian director James Cameron filming the wreck of the Titanic in IMAX 3D. He has been a recipient of the coveted Cinematographer of the Year Award, and for his photography of National Geographic documentaries, received his first nomination for an Emmy Award.
With our destinations in mind, he will screen segments of his work and uncover some of the camera magic that is a part of his craft plus interesting and amusing behind-the-scenes stories.
He was the Director of Photography for the international co-production, Darwin’s Lost Paradise, a television series commissioned for the anniversary of the publication On the Origin of the Species. Much of Pieter's work is recognised by guests on board.
Pieter lives in Sydney Australia and travels the world each year.
