Ph.D. Teri Sowell,
South Pacific, Polynesia Expert
Teri Sowell is a lecturer and curator specializing in the art and culture of the Pacific Islands. Her research includes the ritual and ceremonial use of Polynesian objects, with special interest in sculpture, tattoo, and tapa cloth. She has also curated many art exhibitions with venues ranging from the San Diego Museum of Art to The Brooklyn Museum.
For the past twenty years, Teri has lectured around the world, bringing to life her knowledge and appreciation of Pacific art and culture to a variety of enthusiastic audiences. Her frequent travels to the Pacific keep her in touch with the contemporary Pacific, enabling her to weave together threads of past and present cultural traditions in her lectures and writings.
Dr. Sowell received her Ph.D. from Indiana University and currently teaches at the University of California, San Diego.
