Luis Jaime Castillo Butters is Vice Minister of Cultural Patrimony and Cultural Industries, Ministry of Culture, Perú. He is also Professor of Archaeology at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú in Lima. He received an MA in Archaeology and PhD in Anthropology at UCLA.
Jaime is Director of the San Jose de Moro Archaeological Program since 1991, conducting research in the Jequetepeque Valley focused on the evolution of complex Pre Columbian societies, ideology and power, the political and geo political organization of the Moche, the collapse of the Moche, ritual and funerary practices, etc.
Dr. Castillo has also been a visiting professor at the Universidad Pompeu Fabra and Universidad Autónoma, Barcelona, Spain; Universidad Pablo de Olavide, Seville, Spain; Universitá di Siena, Italy; Ecole de Hautes Etudes de Sciences Sociales, Universite de Paris and Universite de Bordeaux, France; and University of Lund, Sweden.
He is the author or co-author of over 100 academic papers and articles.
