Brian Hoey is an author and broadcaster who has written 26 books about the British Royal Family including the official biography of HRH The Princess Royal and the official history of the Royal Yacht Britannia. He also wrote the first guide to Buckingham Palace when it opened to the public in 1993. He was the first presenter of BBC Wales TV News programme Wales Today in 1962 and he was also a television commentator at the Investiture of Prince Charles as Prince of Wales in 1969. Among his other TV duties he has commentated at the weddings of Princess Anne and Mark Phillips in 1973, and of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, and the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997.
His most recent book is The Royal Train, The Inside Story, written with the full cooperation of the Royal Household. He is currently working on a project due for publication next year involving Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and several of the First Ladies, past and present, of the United States.
Hoey’s non-Royal interviews for television include such stars of Hollywood’s ‘Royalty’ as Cary Grant, Ray Milland, David Niven, Kirk Douglas, Gregory Peck, Sophia Loren, Charlie Chaplin, Charlton Heston and also The Beatles.
Brian Hoey has travelled throughout Britain and the United States lecturing on British Royalty and concentrating on Princess Diana, who became a personal friend after they travelled together during the early years of her marriage to Charles.
