Mark trained as a biologist in England, Scotland and Iceland.
His work in the industries of conservation, television, and wildlife tour and expedition cruises, has allowed him to travel the world in search of wild places, wildlife and birds. He has lived in New Zealand, but since 1998, Hokkaido, Northern Japan, has been his home base from where he specializes in leading naturalists, birders and photographers throughout the country. A prolific writer, he is the author of several books on East Asia, as well as a columnist for The Japan Times newspaper and online guide, Japan Visitor. A much sought after lecturer, Mark enjoys sharing his years of experience in the region and his deep passion for natural history with his fellow travellers.
