Elizabeth Whitin Kiritani, Journalist, Japanese Culture Expert
Elizabeth Whitin Kiritani is a journalist based in Tokyo with a seven-year running, weekly column for the largest newspaper in Japan, the Yomiuri Shimbun, and the recipient of the Nihon Bungei Taisho Award for Journalism for her book “Vanishing Japan". She is an active member of various government committees and think tanks and acted as a special advisor to former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi while he was in office.
In 2008 Elizabeth was named Yokoso Cultural Ambassador to Japan by the Japanese government. She lives in the traditional Shitamachi area of Tokyo with her artist husband, Itsuo Kiritani.
