Philip Martin, Ph.D., Economist

Philip Martin earned a Ph.D. in Labor and Agricultural Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1975. He is Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California-Davis and chair of the University of California's Comparative Immigration and Integration Program; he earned UCD's Distinguished Public Service award.
Philip worked on labor and immigration issues for President Carter, testifies frequently before Congress, and works for UN agencies around the world. Since 2005, he has been the UN’s Special Representative for Migrant Workers. Martin edits the newsletters Migration News and Rural Migration News.
Philip has earned a reputation as an effective analyst capable of developing practical solutions to complex and controversial migration and labor issues.
