Michael Freedland, Journalist, Broadcaster and Author

Michael Freedland is a writer, journalist and broadcaster. He has written some 40 books, most of them showbiz and musical biographies. His subjects range from Fred Astaire to Leonard Bernstein, with Andre Previn, Sean Connery and Danny Kaye thrown into the mix. His first book was a best-selling biography of Al Jolson, which not only became television and radio documentaries that were aired throughout the world, but also was the origin of his hit West End show Jolson, which ran for 18 months at the famed Victoria Palace Theatre and then toured Canada and Australia and played all over the United States. Among his most recently published book are the much- acclaimed biography of Judy Garland, The Other Side of the Rainbow, and a new look at the life of Elvis Presley.

He will be discussing many of these in his talks on this ship, starting with 'Confessions of A Serial Biographer' – the title of his newly expanded autobiography, copies of which will be available on the voyage. His other subjects on this trip include 'The Men Who Made Hollywood' and 'Hollywood on Trial' – also subjects of his books.

He writes regularly for The Times in London and other publications and broadcasts frequently on the BBC.
