Manolo Abella, Destination Expert
Manolo I. Abella is a leading international expert in the field of labour migration. A graduate of McGill University and Harvard University, he headed for many years the International Migration Programme of the International Labour Organization in Geneva. He has undertaken research and published widely in the field of migration and development.
He served as a member of the Advisory Board of the Centre for Migration Policy and Society COMPAS (University of Oxford) and of “People on the Move” project of the Institute for Public Policy Research in the UK. He currently serves as a Senior Research Associate at COMPAS, and is a member of the Consortium Advisory Board of Sussex University for its program “Migrating out of Poverty”. He is a Consultant and chairs a Committee of the World Bank promoting knowledge partnerships in migration. He has been a frequent invited speaker at international conferences, including among others, as the keynote speaker at Metropolis 2009 in Copenhagen and the Global Conference on Human Mobility in Barcelona in 2004.
Manolo has given lectures in many universities including the United Nations University in Tokyo, Lundt University in Sweden, Complutense University in Madrid, Leiden University, European University Institute in Florence, Aspen Institute,Science Po in Paris, the National University of Singapore, and University of California in Davis and in Berkeley.
