Robert Freedman, World Affairs and Middle East Expert

Dr. Robert O. Freedman is Professor of Political Science at Johns Hopkins University, where he lectures on the Middle East and on Russian foreign policy. The author of five books on Soviet and Russian foreign policy, most recently Russia, Iran and the Nuclear Question: The Putin Record, he is also the editor of fourteen books on the Soviet Union/Russia and the Middle East, most recently Contemporary Israel: Domestic Politics, Foreign Policy, and Security Challenges. His latest book is The United States and Israel: Six Decades of Relations.

A consultant to the US State Department and the CIA, Dr. Freedman has served as a commentator on National Public Radio, the BBC, and the Voice of America. He has been a member of US government delegations that went to Moscow and Beijing for discussions with Russian and Chinese scholars and government officials on the Middle East, and has lectured at Shanghai University. He has also held talks on the Middle East peace process with Palestinian Authority Presidents Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Ministers Yitzhak Rabin and Ariel Sharon, and former Israeli Foreign Minister Tsippy Livny. 
Dr. Freedman received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in Diplomatic History and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University in the field of International Relations.
