Henry Lawrence Island,
Ritchie's Archipelago lies east of Great Andaman and the main Andaman Island group. This cluster of smaller islands in the Bay of Bengal runs north-south parallel to the rest of the Andaman group. Henry Lawrence Island, at about 55 km2 (over 20 square miles), is part of Ritchie’s Archipelago. The island was named after Brigadier General Henry Montgomery Lawrence, a British soldier and statesman in India during the 1800s. Located off Tamarind Beach on Henry Lawrence is a wall reef that is considered the best reef in the area for divers and snorkelers. The underwater scenery is breathtaking and snorkelers can be surrounded by schools of cardinal fish, lionfish, pipefish, ghost pipefish, and humphead parrotfish feeding on the coral.
