Day 2 - April 20, 2014 - Baltra to Baltra


The view from Bartolome Island is perhaps the best known scene in the Galapagos Islands. Every book on the archipelago depicts an image of the place.

Day 3 - April 21, 2014 - Baltra to Baltra


Sea turtles, flightless cormorants, and sea lions swam around us when we went snorkeling. A couple of sea lion cubs almost touched us! We just could not believe it…

Day 4 - April 22, 2014 - Baltra to Baltra


During the early morning zodiac ride we saw large groups of marine iguanas sunbathing, warming themselves up before they go into the water to feed on the ever-abundant sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca).

Day 5 - April 23, 2014 - Floreana Island, Galapagos, Ecuador

At Post Office Bay we keep a wonderful tradition alive: we collect postcards from the mail-box to hand deliver them -and we drop ours there to be collected by somebody else. We went through all the postcards looking for addresses guests might reach when they go home. And some were found to be deliverable!!

Day 6 - April 24, 2014 - San Cristobal Island, Galapagos, Ecuador

When we arrived, the Galapagos National Park breeding center gates were open. There, right at the entrance, were huge land tortoises: males and females of all sizes; but most importantly and amazingly, there were little hatchlings in small, protected cages.

Day 7 - April 25, 2014 - Santa Cruz Island, Galapagos

We arrived at a small farm with pastures filled with giant tortoises. I photographed them plodding through the long grass and lounging around in a small lake with muddy banks. The Santa Cruz tortoises are some of the largest in the Galapagos and it was fascinating to watch a 400 pound male sliding into the muddy lake, obviously enjoying the cool water in the heat of the day.
