Voyage Journal 7815 Day 1
Day 1 - September 1, 2008 - Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States

Weather: Beautiful warm sunny day with a light breeze and warm conditions
The sun was out, and it was a beautiful day in Fort Lauderdale. At 11h00, the ship was ready for embarkation. We welcomed the excited guests and directed them to the Panorama Lounge where they were offered champagne and canapés. Members of the onboard Expedition Staff checked the guests’ passports, handed out suite keys and took individual photos for security purposes. The guests then proceeded to their suites to unpack. Soon lunch was served in The Restaurant where guests were treated to a sumptuous meal.
At 14h00, Captain Fabien Roche announced that the Prince Albert II had started her engines and was about to set sail, heading south in search of exciting adventure and naturally spectacular scenery. As we left Fort Lauderdale, many of us stood out on the decks and toasted our departure.
At 15h30, we gathered in The Theatre for a safety briefing. Safety always comes first onboard, and it is so important that guests are fully aware of the safety procedures aboard the Prince Albert II.
At 18h00, Suzana Machado D’Oliveira, our Expedition Leader from Brazil called all the guests to The Theatre once again to introduce the Expedition Staff: Assistant Expedition Leaders – Nadia Eckhard from South Africa and Esther Bruns from Germany, and myself, Staff Assistant – Jarda Versloot from the Netherlands. The Lecture staff on this voyage includes Christian Walter, an Anthropologist from Easter Island; Dr. Brent Stephenson, an Ornithologist from New Zealand; Juan Jose Apestegui, a general naturalist from Costa Rica; Robin West, a general naturalist from South Africa; and our two photographers – Richard Harker from the USA and Val Muhin from Australia. All together we make a very international team with much experience and knowledge.
A short time later, we adjourned to The Restaurant and enjoyed the fine cuisine as we headed south to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico, the first stop on our Silversea Expedition.
