Silver Explorer: La Romana to Barbados

 

 

Day 1 - October 2, 2013 - La Romana, Dominican Republic

The ship’s officers put the vessel in reverse along the short distance to the mouth of the river, executed an elegant turn, and Silver Explorer was officially on her way for the start of our West Indies Expedition.

Day 2 - October 3, 2013 - Jost van Dyke, B.V.I.

According to plan, around noon we arrived at Jost van Dyke, a beautiful island of only 3 square miles and the smallest of the four main islands in the British Virgin Islands.

Day 3 - October 4, 2013 - Anegada, Brithish Virgin Islands

The scenery at the bay is like a picture from a Caribbean book - white sandy beaches, coconut trees and turquoise waters.

Day 4 - October 5, 2013 -  Saba 

 

I learned later that the island has a number of stringent rules that govern the appearance of houses, the upkeep of motor vehicles, and the general cleanliness of the island. The result is a dramatic, attractive landscape and villages with an almost Mediterranean feel.

Day 5 - October 6, 2013 - Montserrat

A rugged and very green landscape was my first impression of Montserrat, also known by the nickname of “Emerald Isle” for the dense rainforest surrounding the volcano.

Day 6 - October 7, 2013 - Pointe Pitre, Guadeloupe

The, we headed back to the port with a short stop to admire the Crayfish waterfalls in the national park on the way.

Day 7 - October 9, 2013 - Bequia

As a true biologist, I couldn’t help but choose the latter option, and once again jumped into the water for another truly exciting snorkeling adventure.
