Day 1 - June 4, 2013 - Bergen, Norway
By Hans-Peter Reinthaler, Biologist
Co-ordinates: 60°24´N, 05°18´E
Air Temperature: 14°C
It was one of those rare beautiful sunny days in Bergen and the first day of the new voyage up to the Arctic region. Embarkation started punctually at 12:00pm. The guests arrived during the afternoon, and boarding of all our guests were completed at 16.00. During embarkation my duty was to receive our guests at the gangway when they arrived with the taxi.
Shortly afterwards Expedition Leader Robin West announced through the PA system the repositioning of the ship to the bunkering peer and during the bunkering the obligatory Emergency Drill for the guests took place. After finishing bunkering the MV Silver Explorer set course for the next destination: the Geiranger Fjord.
Together with our guests, I enjoyed the sail away out of the fjord of Bergen, with its lovely hilly landscape and scattered houses.
Embarkation day ended with the introduction of some of the Department Leaders and the Expedition Team, and as always with the excellent dinner in The Restaurant.
