Dublin to Santa Cruz de Tenerife

 

 

Day 1 - September 2, 2012 - Dublin, Republic of Ireland 

The guests hastened to unpack and settle into their welcoming suites prior to the mandatory safety briefing, which was followed by a Zodiac briefing. All this was completed before we sailed away in the beautiful early evening sunshine.

Day 2 - September 3, 2012 - Waterford, Ireland 

The Mount Congreve Gardens were designed and tended for over 60 years by Mr. Ambrose Congreve and Mr. Herman Dool and are not only remarkable for their landscape with views onto the River Suir but also for their collections of Rhododendrons, Magnolias, Maples, Camellias and Hydrangeas.

Day 3 - September 4, 2012 - Glengarriff 

We set off in two buses for the spectacular ride through the scenery of some of the Ring of Kerry, taking in Kinmare and Smeeth.

Day 4 - September 5, 2012 - Isles of Scilly, UK 

Although at the end of summer now, the garden was still magnificent, and the tree foliage in particular was enchanting to see.

Day 5 - September 6, 2012 - Dartmouth, England 

After breakfast we disembarked by Zodiac for a tour of Britannia Royal Naval College, the institution that, for a century and a half, has been responsible for the training of officers for the Royal Navy.

Day 6 - September 7, 2012 - At Sea: En Route to La Coruña, Spain 

The enormous Fin Whales suddenly appeared right beside the ship!

Day 7 - September 8, 2012 - La Coruña, Spain 

During the extensive visit of the inside of the church, one could really admire the fantastic architecture and sacral art displayed there.

Day 8 - September 9, 2012 - Oporto 

We had some free time to wander round the tiny, stepped streets or drink coffee near the river, a setting that always enchants visitors.

Day 9 - September 10, 2012 - Lisbon, Portugal 

All guests were out on deck to see Lisbon sliding past as Silver Explorer went to its berth close to the city.

Day 10 - September 11, 2012 - Lisbon, Portugal

 

Our first stop was the town of Cascais, a resort community with still quite a lot of charm remaining from its origins as a simple fishing village.

Day 11 - September 12, 2012 - At Sea 

 

Good weather and calm seas were the factors that characterized our day at sea, though there was not too much to see outside – no whales or dolphin and even a lack of sea birds.

Day 12 - September 13, 2012 - Safi, Morocco

We had an amazing coffee stop on the way. Carpets were laid out on the ground for us inside an exotic tent. Incense burned in bright brass thuribles and we were offered quite an array of hot drinks with cakes and biscuits.

Day 13 - September 14, 2012 - At Sea, en route to Arrecife

It was once again a beautiful sunny day and relaxing on board was most enjoyable.

Day 14 - September 15, 2012 - Arrecife, Lanzarote, Canary Islands

The amazing landscape looked and felt like Mars with a breathable atmosphere, with stunning scenery and the occasional scrubby plant managing to survive in a land that has no natural water supply.
