Day 1 - July 15, 2012 - Longyearbyen, Svalbard 

Yes, it was a somewhat busy day for all of us. However, it put us right on track to begin full scale operations tomorrow in the beautiful and remote Arctic wonderland of Svalbard.

Day 2 - July 16, 2012 - Monacobreen, Svalbard 

On the second Zodiac ride the two bears got up and wandered to the other side of the island and started feeding on an old whale carcass that had washed up on the shore.

Day 3 - July 17, 2012 - Lågøya & Ice Cruising, Svalbard 

The walrus were more active than usual with a lot of scratching, moving about, making sounds and some even swimming.

Day 4 - July 18, 2012 - The sea ice north of Nordaustlandet, and Storøya 

In perfect windless conditions, I watched with mouth agape as the mother swam from ice floe to ice floe, with her two cubs excitedly following behind her.

Day 5 - July 19, 2012 - Hinlopen Strait en route between Brasvellbreen and Alkefjellet, Svalbard

These glacier cliffs mark the sea terminus of the Austfonna Ice Cap, which covers most of Nordaustland, the second largest island in the Svalbard archipelago after Spitsbergen.

Day 6 - July 20, 2012 - Kapp Lee, Svalbard 

There were several reindeer in the open tundra behind the beach – and three of them got fairly close to us, providing us with great views.
