Day 1 - June 13, 2012 - Reykjavik, Iceland 

Here we go again! After a quick turn around, a new adventure begins.

Day 2 - June 14, 2012 - Grundarfjordur, Iceland 

The scenery is typically Icelandic, with mountains, hills, lava fields, scattered farms, sea-cliffs, and big open spaces.

Day 3 - June 15, 2012 - Kara Weller, Biologist 

Our destination for the morning was Vigur Island – a tiny island inside Isafjardar Fjord and surrounded by steep cliffs and snowy-topped mountains.

Day 4 - June 16, 2012 - Husavik, Iceland 

At 6:45 we had another Recap & Briefing. Our plan for tomorrow was to be at sea. And the colleagues recapped on all the activities and the things we saw today.

Day 5 - June 17, 2012 - At Sea en route to Jan Mayen 

With all eyes looking, the whale came to the surface and then went for a dive and showing us its large fluke – thereby verifying that this was, indeed, a humpback whale.

Day 6 - June 18, 2012 - Jan Mayen Island 

The highest point on the island is Mount Beerenburg at the north end. Despite our unusual sunshine on the lower portion of the island, the glacier-capped mountain peak is almost always shrouded in fog … but not today.

Day 7 - June 19, 2012 - At Sea 

In the evening, guests enjoyed the Venetian Society Cocktail Party and Dinner – a special event that recognizes and celebrates those who have previously sailed with Silversea.

Day 8 - June 20, 2012 - Barentsburg, Svalbard 

Thanks to that good speed we were sailing into Isfjord this morning, ahead of schedule, at about 9 am.

Day 9 - June 7, 2012 - Amsterdamoya, Svalbard 

We quickly organised Zodiac cruising in order to take our guests to see this great symbol of the Arctic, the Polar Bear.

Day 10 - June 22, 2012 - Alkefjellet and Palanderbukta, Svalbard 

We weren’t sure they would stay in a position to make them viewing from the Zodiac possible, but luck was with us and after the ship pushed into more ice, the Zodiacs were launched and we headed off to get a better and closer view of this beautiful mother polar bear and her two cubs.

Day 11 - June 23, 2012 - Monacobreen, Svalbard 

At one point I totally stopped the engine and we sat for about 10 minutes in the complete silence taking in the scenery – the sun was shining, the blues of the glacier were sparkling, and the birds were squawking and calling.

Day 12 - June 24, 2012 - Poolepynten & Alkhornet, Svalbard 

Already from the ship we could see that there were quite some of those “big sausages” (as a captain from another company once called them).
