Day 1 - December 12, 2011 - Ushuaia, Argentina

There is nothing better than starting an adventure to the Antarctic with sunny and warm weather in Ushuaia!

Day 2 - December 13, 2011 - At sea, sailing across the Drake Passage for the Antarctic Peninsula

All day, as we approached the Antarctic Convergence, these great soarers would glide across our boat, skidding the waves.

Day 3 - December 14, 2011 - Barrientos Island, South Shetland Islands

A wonderful time was had by all as we explored the beach and watched the penguin antics.

Day 4 - December 15, 2011 - Edge of pack ice, vicinity of Snow Hill Island, Weddell Sea, Antarctica 

Emperor-mania began as, very slowly, the Silver Explorer’s bow got close to the penguins.

Day 5 - December 16, 2011 - Bransfield Strait and Gerlache Strait between Antarctica and South Shetland Islands 

Today was an excellent example of how variable the weather patterns can be around the Antarctic and how quickly plans must be changed as meteorology and not human technology turns out to be the real ruler of the lands and seas around this beautiful but challenging continent.

Day 6 - December 17, 2011 - Neko Harbour and Cuverville Island, Antarctica

However, the outstanding scenery with the snow-covered terrain surrounded by glaciers and icebergs on the bay satisfied not only the guests but the whole Expedition Team as well.

Day 7 - December 18, 2011 - Port Lockroy

The Captain nosed the ship right up to the cliffs next to the Argentine base on shore where we could see nesting blue-eyed shags on their perches, some with large chicks.

Day 8 - December 19, 2011 - Deception Island – Whalers Bay & Bailey Head

We could see hordes of chinstraps marching along the shore at Bailey Head, Antarctica’s largest rookery of these most wonderful of flightless birds

Day 9 - December 20, 2011 - At sea, Drake Passage

the infamous Drake Passage did not show a single sign of strong winds or high swells that we normally encounter in that part of the world. Welcome to the Drake Lake!

Day 10 - December 21, 2011 - At sea towards Ushuaia

It was time to enjoy what the tiny town has to offer by way of food and entertainment, review the events of the trip and plan for the future!
