Day 1 - June 23, 2011 - Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Norway

Svalbard is also such a great place for spectacular scenery with tall rugged mountains and stupendous glaciers, which cascade down into the sea.

Day 2 - June 24, 2011 - Bamsebu, Svalbard

This beautiful and wild location held many small discoveries for us to admire

Day 3 - June 25, 2011 - Smeerenburg and Raudfjord

We watched them for a while as they crossed the sea ice in front of us.

Day 4 - June 26, 2011 - Raudfjorden & Moffen Island (furthest north), Svalbard

Once in the Zodiacs we set out to investigate the west side of Raudfjorden. We soon saw Harbor and Bearded seals, stunning scenery and lots of little auks, black guillemots, eider ducks and a few shorebirds.

Day 5 - June 27, 2011 - Ny Alesund and 14 July Glacier, Svalbard, Norway

However, the nice surprise today is that the Expedition Team had scouted out a safe path up the side where we could climb up and slightly onto the top of the glacier, which is quite an unusual treat.

Day 6 - June 28, 2011 - Poolepynten and St John’s Fjord, Svalbard

A short walk down the sandy beach on the point of land lay the walrus males.

Day 7 - June 29, 2011 - Nathorstbreen

Normally seals in the Arctic tend to move away quickly from the Zodiacs, these seals today were curious and when we turned the engines off, they came right up to the Zodiacs, popping their heads up, giving all the guests a thrill at seeing the wildlife so close to us.

Day 8 - June 30, 2011 - Ice Cruising in Southern Spitsbergen

The scenery was truly magnificent. Fulmars perfectly reflected on the water and the calm, almost surreal conditions as the Silver Explorer navigated through the icy waters of southeast Spitsbergen.

Day 9 - July 1, 2011 - Bear Island, North of Norway

This is the site of one of the absolutely best Zodiac cruises in the world and the Silver Explorer tries to take advantage of this opportunity during each of our voyages between Svalbard in the far Northern Arctic and Northern Norway.

Day 10 - July 2, 2011 - Tromso, Norway

The plants that can grow at these high latitudes are quite astonishing in their diversity and we admired the variety of colors and shapes and the hardy attitudes of these species that manage to survive the harsh cold winters.
