Day 1 - December 8, 2010 - Ushuaia and Beagle Channel, Argentina

Day 2 - December 9, 2010 - Drake Passage
Right after the briefing, everyone was out on deck to watch the seabirds soaring around the ship.

Day 3 - December 10, 2010 - South Shetland Islands, Halfmoon Island
I was soon helping to land the Zodiacs, and getting guests onto the island for a short afternoon interpretive walk through snow, and amongst the Chinstrap penguins that call Halfmoon Island home.

Day 4 - December 11, 2010 - Brown Bluff and Kinnes Cove
Our afternoon Zodiac trip through Kinnes Cove was a marvel of ice. The icebergs were every color of blue. (read more)

Day 5 - December 12, 2010 - Almirante Brown, Paradise Bay
The conditions were perfect: mirror-still waters, blue skies and the fantastic backdrop of the ice-covered Antarctic Peninsula. (read more)

Day 6 - December 13, 2010 -
North of Cape Renard
After a careful Zodiac scouting by the Expedition Leader we were able to safely take our guests through this awe-inspiring passage into the wonders of Hidden Bay. (read more)

Day 7 - December 14, 2010 - Waterboat Point, Danco Island & Cuverville Island
Those of us who felt fit enough (I only hesitated a brief moment!) went ashore and climbed high up the hill on Danco Island. (read more)

Day 8 - December 15, 2010 - Port Lockroy, Goudier Island
I was lucky to guide guests on Zodiac cruises around the heavily glaciered bay and the various small islands that contain a variety of bird life. (read more)

Day 9 - December 16, 2010 - Deception Island
Most of the guests were reluctant to undress and go into the cold water of the bay... but as soon as they discovered the thermal water to be 40°C, about 30 bold Antarctic heroes dared the Polar Plunge! (read more)

Day 10 - December 17, 2010 - Drake Passage
These magnificent birds don’t always hang around for very long, and I did not want to miss the opportunity, as they were very close to the ship. (read more)
