Day 1 - June 22, 2010 - Longyearbyen

By now it was time for our sail away, so taking a break, everyone headed onto the outer decks to wave goodbye to Longyearbyen for the next seven days.

Day 2 - June 23, 2010 - Magdalenafjorden And Sallyhamna, Svalbard

Just as expected, the bears were there. There were seven, including 3 cubs. The sight was simply magnificent.

Day 3 - June 24, 2010 - En Route From Lagoya Island To Alkefjellet Off Northern Coast Of Spitzbergen, Svalbard

This is an absolutely overwhelming location that must be seen to be believed; a series of tall, vertical sea cliffs sandwiched between other layers of limestone, then covered with lichens and patches of snow.

Day 4 - June 25, 2010 - Svalbard, Monacobreen (Liefdefjord)

Excitement mounted, as one of the bears came nearer and nearer, tongue flicking out, nose in the air, clearly smelling the cooking smells issuing from the ship.

Day 5 - June 26, 2010 - Fjortende Juliabukta / Blomstrandhalvøya

Our morning began at Fjortende Juliabukta with hiking on the glacier and viewing of bird cliffs and the abundant vegetation in the area.

Day 6 - June 27, 2010 - Poolepynten And St. Johnsfjorden, Svalbard

The sun was just right and St. Johnsfjorden was undoubtedly at its best.

Day 7 - June 28, 2010 - Bellsund, Spitzbergen, Svalbard En Route From Bamsebu To Recherchebreen

Our first major activity was a landing at a location colloquially called ‘Bamsebu’ which is the name carved over the door of an old hut that was utilized to support whaling activities in the area just under a century ago.
