Lisbon to Portsmouth

 

 

Day 1 - April 28, 2010 - Lisbon, Portugal

Together with our guests, I enjoyed the sail away down the Tejo River passing by some of the important sights of Lisbon.

Day 2 - April 29, 2010 - Oporto, Portugal

Our next stop was at a place for port wine for which Oporto is famous! We visited one of the old wine cellars and of course got the opportunity to taste some different kinds of port wine.

Day 3 - April 30, 2010 - La Coruña And Santiago De Compostela, Spain

At the Hotel of the Catholic Kings we enjoyed refreshments and listened to some fine Tuna music. The players (Tunos) carry on the tradition of university students inspired by 10th-century troubadours with their mandolin, lute, and bandurria and dressed in festive period costumes.

Day 4 - May 1, 2010 - Day At Sea En Route To Bilbao, Spain

At 1715 hrs the evening lecture 'Life in Nelson's Navy' was delivered by an arrogant and self-satisfied Brit (myself), who confirms all the prejudices of the non-British element on the ship.

Day 5 - May 2, 2010 - Bilbao, Spain

The highlight of this outing was the Guggenheim Museum, which was built jointly by the city of Bilbao and the Guggenheim Foundation in what is referred to as a post modern style.

Day 6 - May 3, 2010 - Bordeaux, France

We were then treated to the first wine tasting of the evening with hors d’ oeuvres before the sumptuous meal started.

Day 7 - May 4, 2010 - Bordeaux, France

Next we went to the St. Andrew Cathedral, from the 13th century! Very impressive!!! And there was even someone playing the organ, which made it even a bit mystical.

Day 8 - May 5, 2010 - Nantes And Angers, France

Driving through rich agricultural fields of the Loire Valley, we arrived to the small city of Angers and went to explore the famed former fortress and residence of Chateau Angers.

Day 9 - May 6, 2010 - At Sea En Route To St Malo

The day was spent entirely at sea but with plenty of activity for those guests who wanted it.

Day 10 - May 7, 2010 - St. Malo

Our main destination was the fabled abbey of Mont Saint Michel, perched on a high rock promontory just off the mainland.

Day 11 - May 8, 2010 - St Peter Port, Guernsey, United Kingdom

The beautiful beaches, like Vazon Bay or Rocquaine Bay together with the green landscape and the colorful flowers give the island a very charming character.

Day 12 - May 9, 2010 - Honfleur, France

Today was all about the D-Day … and the history of the operation, which happened here on the 6th of June 1944.
