Day 1 - January 18, 2010 - Ushuaia, Argentina

We only have 99 guests on board for this trip, which is fantastic, as we will be able to land everybody at once while in Antarctica as we are under the 100 guest limit, so we are all looking forward to a superb adventure in the Antarctic.

Day 2 - January 19, 2010 - Drake Passage En Route To Antarctic Peninsula

Having lunch in the sun and watching the Drake Passage glide by is an experience not to be missed!

Day 3 - January 20, 2010 - In Transit Drake Passage; Aitcho Islands

Barrientos Island has many Gentoo and Adelie penguins and we could observe the differences in nest building habits, Gentoos building bigger and higher stone nests, and behavior, the Adelies being far more raucous.

Day 4 - January 21, 2010 - Devil Island, Brown Bluff

The guests can also witness how important the formation of crèches (kindergarten groups) is for the survival of penguin chicks – all the attacks of skuas fail.

Day 5 - January 22, 2010 - Deception Island: Whalers Bay, Telefon Bay

Unexpectedly, when we were up to the edge, the wind there was very low and we enjoyed by view through that amazing geological structure.

Day 6 - January 23, 2010 - Port Lockroy; Jougla Point And Iceberg Graveyard (Pleneau Bay)

It was then time for lunch before reappearing on deck as we entered the Lemaire Channel, one of the most spectacular sights in the Antarctic

Day 7 - January 24, 2010 - Brown Base (Paradise Bay) And Cuverville Island

I headed out to the outside deck to watch a wonderful display of a few humpback whales as they fluked and swam extremely close to the bow of the ship.

Day 8 - January 25, 2010 - Petermann Island, Antarctica

This slight bit of work was rewarded with an absolutely stunning view of an iceberg-choked ocean, including brilliant whites and deep blues of underwater ice.

Day 9 - January 26, 2010 - Melchior Islands; In Transit In The Drake Passage

The original tour plan was abandoned when humpback whales were seen and for the next hour the first two groups enjoyed the thrill of observing whales at close quarters, if not very close quarters.

Day 10 - January 27, 2010 - Drake Passage

While the weather improves more and more in the course of the afternoon the number of birds following the ship is increasing, mostly giant petrels and different albatrosses – including even a grey-headed.

Day 11 - January 28, 2010 - Drake Passage, Pass Within 40 Miles Of Cape Horn, Beagle Channel

After a warm Farewell Cocktail Party, all joined dinner and were excited again when we met another Silversea ship, Silver Cloud, and made a 360-degree dance around one other. That was beautiful.
