Baltra to Baltra

By Maria Elena Aviles, Naturalist Guide

We woke up to a sunny day, and the Silver Galapagos was at anchor at Punta Vicente Roca, Isabela Island. The tall cliffs that were visible from the ship became even taller and more impressive when we went on a Zodiac tour during the morning. Sea turtles, flightless cormorants, and sea lions swam around us when we went snorkeling. A couple of sea lion cubs almost touched us! We just could not believe it…At lunch time we navigated to Punta Espinoza, Fernandina Island. Our walk over a new black lava field transported us to the times when these islands were just emerging from the ocean. Hundreds of marine iguanas, sea lions, a few penguins and even a Galapagos hawk were only a couple of meters away from us and some of them on the very trail. The tameness of the animals and the beauty of nature in this corner of the world filled our souls with joy.
We came back to the Silver Galapagos where the hotel department was waiting for us with delicious snacks and refreshments.

At night we enjoyed a great dinner, and then went to the Piano Bar to listen to Braulio’s romantic Latin accords. This was another splendid day in the Galapagos Islands!
