Our first and only full day at sea during this voyage started at 8 a.m. with a light breakfast, and very few guests in The Restaurant. Adriana, our Brazilian boutique manageress, had joined us and we then visited her when she opened The Boutique.
At 9:45 a.m. Kara gave a talk entitled “A Comparison of the Polar Regions” in which she examined climate, geology and biology, showing how different the Arctic and Antarctica are.
Our weekly crew emergency drill took place at 10:45 a.m., and warm clothing was indeed needed, as 1,9° C with a wind speed exceeding 65 km/h made for a fresh exercise.
Christian, our Executive Chef, then gave a cooking demonstration in the Panorama Lounge. While he prepared two types of graved lax, Anacleto, our Pastry Chef from the Philippines, gave us a taste of a typical Austrian dessert: Kaiserschmarrn. The demo ended just in time for lunch.
At 2 p.m. it was my turn for a lecture. Although the after-lunch slot is considered by many to be a perfect time for a little siesta, almost 60 guests came to The Theatre to listen to my talk about “Early Arctic Exploration”.
Future cruise bookings with Tim could be done before one of the highlights of the day: a fashion show during tea time. Several guests had volunteered to act as Mannequins for Adriana’s selection, and both models and spectators were able to taste more of Anacleto’s Kaiserschmarrn.
At 5 p.m. Elliot presented some of the footage he had taken so far, adding many hints for interesting and captivating pictures.
In the evening, guests enjoyed the Venetian Society Cocktail Party and Dinner – a special event that recognizes and celebrates those who have previously sailed with Silversea.
