1) What is the average temperature?
Pacific, Southeast Asia, Kimberley, Central America, Caribbean, West Africa:
These areas have a tropical climate with an average temperature ranging are from 26 to 30 degrees Celsius (79 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit).

Arctic, Antarctic, Sub-Antarctic, Russian Far East, Alaska:
Average summer temperatures in these areas are between 0 to 10 degrees Celsius (32 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit). With the windchill factor it can appear much colder and layering of clothing is a must.

Europe, South America, New Zealand, Japan:

Average summer temperatures range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius (60 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit).

2) Will there be snorkelling instructors onboard?
Yes, members of the Expedition Team are experienced snorkellers and some of them are qualified scuba dive masters. They will be available to assist beginner snorkellers with any questions and guidance.

3) For the Scuba programme on Silver Discoverer, what level diver do I need to be?
Advanced Scuba Diver.

  • Be fully certified.
  • Provide proof before embarking the Silver Discoverer.
  • Have medical dive travel insurance.
  • Bring your own gear like Scuba BCDs and regulators (we will provide weight belts and tanks). The Dive Programme has limited participation. Kindly contact Silversea Reservations for additional requirements and further information.

4) What equipment do you provide if I'm looking to snorkel or dive?
For snorkeling we provide mask, fins and snorkel.
Please note: fin sizes cannot be guaranteed. Should guests need prescription glasses in their mask, it is recommended they bring their own. For diving we provide air tank, weight belt, mask, fins and snorkel.

5) Do I need to be of a certain fitness level? 
Yes, in all the areas we operate it is important to be of a moderate fitness level in order to participate in the activities offered. As we make use of the Zodiacs on a daily basis, it is important guests are physically able to embark and disembark the Zodiacs by means of the gangway which involves some steps. On the shoreside, the Expedition team will be taking guests on guided hikes which can involve moderate to difficult walking on uneven terrain.

6) What is the minimum age of children you allow to travel?
The minimum age for children allowed in the Zodiacs is 6. Please keep in mind that we do not offer babysitting service onboard.

7) Is there any wheelchair access on the ship and Zodiacs?

Wheel-on and / or wheel-off access may not be available at some ports-of-call and the Zodiacs are not wheelchair accessible.


8) Where is the best place for wildlife viewing aboard the ship and what can we expect to see?
On the outer decks or Discoverer Lounge. Depending on the area the ship is travelling in we can spot a variety of birds. Always be on the lookout for marine life such as whales and dolphins.
