Hernan Olaya, BIO Guide

Hernan Olaya was born and raised in San Cristobal, the political capital of the Galápagos. His dad worked for the INGALA (an institution responsible for regulating the number of residents in the Galápagos). At age eight, Hernan moved to Quito in order to continue his studies. After graduating from an English-speaking school he continued on to college for a Hotel and Management Tourism degree.

His true passion, however, began at age 14, when he had a close encounter with hammerhead sharks. From that day his passion and interest for sharks began.

In 2009, he did volunteer work with the Charles Darwin Research Station and the Galápagos National Park, regulating the number of boats and visitors to the Galápagos Islands.

Hernan has worked as a guide since 2007, officially guiding in the Galápagos since 2009. He has two hobbies in life, photography and all sea-related sports such as surfing, snorkeling, and most importantly, diving and swimming with sharks.
