Alex Moffat-Wood, Antarctic Historian
Born in New Zealand and raised there, in Australia, and in the United Kingdom, Alex went on to study English literature and politics at university. He spent several years working for the New Zealand government in the sectors of citizenship and cultural heritage. Alex returned to university to complete an Honours degree in History, and then a Postgraduate Certificate in Antarctic Studies, during which he spent time living and working on the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica. Alex is now completing a Master of Arts degree in History. His thesis examines built environment in Antarctica – the huts, bases, and stations – and changing ideas about science and civilisation between 1911 and 1961.
