Expedition Cruise Destinations
Expedition Destinations Remote and Remarkable
Embark on an amazing
adventure with a Silversea expedition cruise. Expedition cruise destinations include the frozen polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic, Europe's remote northern isles, Norway's breathtaking fjords and the tropical beauty of Latin America. New for 2012, Silver Explorer international expeditions include Franz Josef Land in the Russian Arctic and three itineraries
that explore the cultures along Africa's less visited western coast.
Every journey is new and unique, every day unlike any that has come before. Itineraries are unstructured by design. Following only a tentative schedule allows for moment-by-moment flexibility. Stay longer at expedition destination sites of particular interest, or make slight detours whenever weather, nature or mere curiosity dictate. Your Expedition Leader will work closely with the Captain to ensure opportunities for adventure and exploration are the best possible, based on prevailing weather, wildlife activity and sea/ice conditions.
Witness iceberg sculptures like enormous works of avant-garde art. Visit historic whaling sites. Encounter penguins, seals and possibly even whales in their natural habitat.
Explore remote regions at the top of the world. Marvel as multitudes of seabirds pattern the sky. Cross the Arctic Circle and toast the midnight sun. Enter the realm of the polar bear.
Central & South America
Venture into lush tropical jungle in search of monkeys and rare bird species. Swim amongst colourful marine life. Participate in the traditions of a native Kuna community.
West Coast of Africa
Discover Africa’s Atlantic coast. Spot rare birds and wild monkeys. Visit places infamous
for their historic role in the slave trade. Meet the school children of a traditional village.
Greenland & Canada
Cruise into deep bays and alongside glaciers. Marvel at brilliant icebergs, natural limestone monoliths and skies darkened by multitudes of seabirds.
Europe & British Isles
Contemplate mystical standing stones and explore
sea caves by Zodiac. Identify diverse species of seabirds and capture the beauty of this fascinating region.
Silversea's new 100-guest expedition ship, Silver Galapagos, will offer 7-day adventure cruises throughout the remote Galapagos Islands beginning late September 2014.
Micronesia & South Pacific
The islands at the far western frontier of the South Pacific offer a particularly diverse and dramatic experience. Yap, Vanuatu and the outer islands of New Guinea contain some of the most traditional people of Oceania, communities centered on gardens, reefs, ocean and ancestors.
Few geological formations capture our imagination more than volcanoes, with their lava flows, hot springs, steamy flumes and majestic, cone-shaped slopes. Learn about volcanism in the Pacific Ring of Fire on our expedition along the Izu-Bonin-Mariana (IBM) Arc. Here, oceanic plates converged millions of years ago, creating a string of volcanic islands and carving the Mariana Trench, the deepest and least-explored part of the world’s oceans.
The Ring of Fire stretches along the entire rim of the Pacific Ocean, but nowhere are these volcanic landscapes more dramatic than in Russia’s Far East. Journey across the Bering Sea to the Komandor Islands, Kamchatka and the Kurils, lonely and majestic lands, sparsely populated and vibrant with smoking volcanoes, brown bears and the wild beauty of the vast Pacific Ocean.
