Explore the abundant wildlife surrounding Lerwick during this picturesque and relaxing Silver Shore Collection adventure aboard a specially designed cruising vessel.
Depart the pier and walk for approximately 15 minutes to Victoria Pier. Upon arrival, embark your 39-foot (12-metre), specially designed cruising vessel, the Dunter III. After embarkation, you can sit out on the open deck, inside the saloon or up on the viewing platform.
Your vessel boasts sub-sea viewing via a remote-controlled mini-submarine patrolling beneath the waves. The images are then relayed in full-colour to display screens on deck. Your vessel also benefits from twin water-jets that enable the captain to manoeuvre in coves and caves that other vessels cannot enter. In the saloon, find identification charts, local guides, a wildlife library, maps, and binoculars you can borrow if you do not have your own with you.
During your trip, experience the awe-inspiring sights, sounds and smells of this extraordinary seabird metropolis, where gannets, guillermots, kittiwakes, puffins, razorbills, and other species congregate. Occasionally, seals, porpoises and otters can also be spotted. Weather permitting, the captain navigates close to the magnificent rock arch of the 'Giant's Leg'. Here, you can view plankton, starfish, crabs, sea urchins, soft coral, and jellyfish in the beautiful Orknis Geo, or 'Orkneyman's Cave' via the underwater camera. Following this memorable tour, return to the pier, disembark the vessel and commence the approximate 15-minute walk back to the ship.
Please note: This Silver Shore Collection tour involves a moderate amount of walking, with a few steps to negotiate to embark/disembark the boat. Whilst there is a moderate walk from the ship to the Dunter III, the main deck of the Dunter III and onboard restroom is wheelchair-accessible. Warm, layered clothing, raingear, flat, closed-toe walking shoes, sun protection, and binoculars are recommended. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. Operation of this tour is subject to weather conditions. Space on this tour is very limited; we suggest you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
