DAY ONE - Sunday, March 31, 2013 - Richards Bay/Phinda Private Game Reserve
Depart the ship in Richards Bay and travel by luxury coach the 1.5 hours to Phinda Private Game Reserve. On arrival at the Reserve's main gate, you are met and transferred in open 4x4 vehicles to the deluxe Mountain Lodge. A welcome drink is served whilst registration cards and indemnity forms are handed out to be signed. Then, enjoy a light lunch, after which you will be shown to your rooms. (Rooms are not usually available before 2:00 p.m.) There is time to freshen up and enjoy the amenities of your deluxe accommodation, complete with sitting area, personal bar, private veranda with plunge pool and romantic al fresco shower.
Guest areas include a spacious u-shaped building with a central courtyard incorporating sitting and dining areas. A shaded terrace offers spectacular views of the Lebombo Mountains and bushveld.
Gather for afternoon tea on the patio before departing on a late afternoon game drive in 4-wheel drive open vehicles. These provide off-road tracking for Africa's Big Five - lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and buffalo. After dark, spotlights are used which may reveal nocturnal creatures and carnivores out hunting.
Sundowners and light snacks will be served at a clearing in the bush, followed by the drive back to the lodge and a sumptuous dinner.

After approximately two hours of tracking wildlife, return to the lodge and enjoy a full breakfast. After breakfast, prepare to check out and depart Phinda by open safari vehicle taking you back to the exit gate of the private reserve. Here switch to the coach for the 2.5-hour journey to Durban.
